CZ 452 or a 453 for a little more exotic if you like....ruger 10/22 for semi. 22lr
CZ 455/457 for bolt 22lr
Just got it, so haven't started "lot hunting" yet. It's a big step up from my Cooey 60 and 64.^ what ammo do you shoot? Sk rifle match can be hard to find
With all due respect, being in my late sixties myself, 30-06 is for old fudds. And, if you dont have a rifle, get a remington 700 in 30-06.

I'm an old 308 Win guy but, for the young 'uns, I'd recommend a Tikka T3X 6.5 creedmoor.
I would have to agree with your incremental suggestion. I suppose I am an old fudd at heart tho considering I shoot .303br ,3006,6.5x55, 9.3x57 mainly lol.If I had to start over (maybe 40-50 years younger) with a hunting round, I'd likely go 300 PRC.
I'm just being a tad tongue in cheek with the fuddism. Don't take me seriously.
For kids today, I'd suggest incrementing with 22LR, 223REM, 6.5C, then whatever they find their heart to be in...
I too have joined FU*: 30-06, 6.5x55, 9.3x62 and 243. The only thing I'm missing is the 270I would have to agree with your incremental suggestion. I suppose I am an old fudd at heart tho considering I shoot .303br ,3006,6.5x55, 9.3x57 mainly lol.
That being said.. OP get yourself a bolt action
22 and a .223 then the world is your oyster.
FU hahaha. Yea I just sold a .243, .270 is on my list aswell.I too have joined FU*: 30-06, 6.5x55, 9.3x62 and 243. The only thing I'm missing is the 270
As to hamont86's question, I second Suther's suggestion of a bolt 22LR. I also have a Savage Mark II and it's cheap fun for the whole family. I bought the sporter-barrelled one from Cabela's with a Weaver scope. I found the 3-9 scope to be too much for it, so I put an old Bushnell 4X on it. It's more than sufficient out to 75 to chew through ammo like through popcorn. And, best of all, it isn't picky about ammo either. At 50-75, I saw no real difference between Aguila match ammo and Freedom Bucket popcorn. If I were to do anything different now, I'd buy the heavier barreled one, since we use it mostly for benchrest and prone.
