Hello all!
Recently got my restricted.
Bought a Remington 870 as a first shotgun.
Looking for a second firearm. Was thinking something that's similar to a Derya tm22.
I'd love to hear suggestions as to what other options are there!
Thanks,

Are you looking for a 2nd RIFLE or a 2nd GUN?

I'm always a proponent of a bolt action 22lr for new shooters. Generally speaking they have better accuracy for the price compared to semi autos, and they're a great platform to learn proper technique. Not that you CAN'T learn good technique on a semi, but I find new shooters with a semi are more inclined to blast away rather than focusing on developing good skills and habits.

As for what gun, depends on the budget. A savage Mark II is very affordable and quite accurate. CZ and Tikka both make good rifles if you're looking to spend a bit more.

Second rifle, hahaha. Think long and hard about that. With the way things are going. I would stay away from the Derya TM 22. I’s in the name, government says buy a TM22 , I Derya. As soon as you do they will ban it and you are stuck with a safe queen.
Take Suther’ advice and look at a good bolt gun. At least you may be able to use it a bit longer.

^ what ammo do you shoot? Sk rifle match can be hard to find
Just got it, so haven't started "lot hunting" yet. It's a big step up from my Cooey 60 and 64.
I've got years' worth of fodder that I've accumulated for the Cooeys, so my first plan is to consume whatever standard velocity I've got before escalating up the accuracy/price ratio ladder.
I'll save my subsonics for the open sighted 60 and the supersonics for the mildly scoped 64.

With all due respect, being in my late sixties myself, 30-06 is for old fudds.
I'm an old 308 Win guy but, for the young 'uns, I'd recommend a Tikka T3X 6.5 creedmoor.

Thats not true; a cartridge is for whoever wants to use it.. Most of my friends use 3006 or 7mag for hunting applications. It’s about 50/50 ; I’m only 36, am I an old fudd by your definition? 3006 is Barely any different in the recoil dept than a .308 and you can squeeze more speed out of the 3006.

If I had to start over (maybe 40-50 years younger) with a hunting round, I'd likely go 300 PRC.
I'm just being a tad tongue in cheek with the fuddism. Don't take me seriously.
For kids today, I'd suggest incrementing with 22LR, 223REM, 6.5C, then whatever they find their heart to be in...

I would have to agree with your incremental suggestion. I suppose I am an old fudd at heart tho considering I shoot .303br ,3006,6.5x55, 9.3x57 mainly lol.

That being said.. OP get yourself a bolt action
22 and a .223 then the world is your oyster.

I too have joined FU*: 30-06, 6.5x55, 9.3x62 and 243. The only thing I'm missing is the 270 :D

As to hamont86's question, I second Suther's suggestion of a bolt 22LR. I also have a Savage Mark II and it's cheap fun for the whole family. I bought the sporter-barrelled one from Cabela's with a Weaver scope. I found the 3-9 scope to be too much for it, so I put an old Bushnell 4X on it. It's more than sufficient out to 75 to chew through ammo like through popcorn. And, best of all, it isn't picky about ammo either. At 50-75, I saw no real difference between Aguila match ammo and Freedom Bucket popcorn**. If I were to do anything different now, I'd buy the heavier barreled one, since we use it mostly for benchrest and prone.

* FU: Fudds Unanimous.
** Of course, that may just be the effect of the loose wingnut on the steering wheel, not the ammo itself.
