Just out of curiosity, why x39?? So you can shoot cheap, crap ammo?
Why buy a nice gun to shoot crap? Remember, garbage in, garbage out. Get a nice .308 and load it down if you want. Then you still have the potential for better bullets, accuracy and ballistics.
Just my opinion of course.

Savage Makes a Scout in 7.62x39
Durham Outdoors is having a contest right now where you can win one, look up the thread!
I have read good things about them and if I dont win the contest I will be buying one.
Zastava and CZ are the only companies i can think of that make bolt guns in 762x39 that have an iron sight option.
I have a CZ 527 bolt rifle in 7.62x39. I can say I love it. Mine is topped with a 2x7 scope and is pretty much a tack driver. Iron sight on it are good too. Never tried a Zavasta, or the Ruger carbine ranch, but they look like good options too.
OK thanks folks, lots of food for thought, I"m a bit disappointed the Savage is a 308 bore, kind of detracts from it for me. What is the bore on the Ruger Rancher Rifle?
