I am interested in picking up a bolt action in the above caliber, what have people seen or used that they think is a pretty good shooter for the price? I probably would NOT put a scope on it.
Cheers.

Zastava and CZ are the only companies i can think of that make bolt guns in 762x39 that have an iron sight option.

Durham Outdoors is having a contest right now where you can win one, look up the thread!

I have read good things about them and if I dont win the contest I will be buying one.

Just out of curiosity, why x39?? So you can shoot cheap, crap ammo?
Why buy a nice gun to shoot crap? Remember, garbage in, garbage out. Get a nice .308 and load it down if you want. Then you still have the potential for better bullets, accuracy and ballistics.
Just my opinion of course.

You can also get good stuff & get really good groupings . Even with my old eyes !

Ruger American is made in 7.62x39(Mod#16976)ruger.com/products/americanRifleRanch/specSheets/16976.html
Would need a scope or red dot thou.
I have the same rifle in 450 Bushmaster and a Ruger Predator in 6.5 creedmoor. 450 is one of the most accurate factory guns I've ever had. Plus it's compact. 6.5 creedmoor I'm still working on loads but so far am impressed.
Scott...

I have a 1000 brass kawi, and reload right now for my SKS, now I want to start playing with cast bullets in a bolt gun. As for crap ammo, my friends bolt action which I cannot remember the make of is shooting Chinese surplus into 2-3" at 100 yds. Good enough for our little 200yd range. :)

Thanks for the tip! I need to look at the vendor section more often.

Savage uses a .308 bore on their 7.62x39 rifles while the vast majority of 7.62x39 ammunition available has a .311 bullet.

It will physically chamber ammo and discharge it, just something to consider for wear and accuracy

I have a CZ 527 bolt rifle in 7.62x39. I can say I love it. Mine is topped with a 2x7 scope and is pretty much a tack driver. Iron sight on it are good too. Never tried a Zavasta, or the Ruger carbine ranch, but they look like good options too.

I have both the Zastava M85 and Ruger American Ranch both in 7.62x39mm. When I didn't have the Ruger yet I thought that the M85 was a nice rifle. Since I got the Ruger I'm completely in love with it. With it 16" long barrel it's a very handy and light carbine. The bolt is much better than that on the M85. The accuracy is excellent. I can easily get 1-2" grouping at 100y with Norinco non-corrosive ammo. Even with corrosive Chinese surplus it shoots great. The only drawback for some people could be the lack of iron sights. However, for me it doesn't matter because I mounted a short 3-9x32 scout scope on it.
I also have the Sabatti Rover 600 in 7.62x39mm but that's a full size hunting rifle. A bit different story.

I have a CZ 527 it is a tack driver. Most of the 7.62x39mm is rubbish comes from people who shoot surplus. There is plenty of very accurate non surplus ammo out there at reasonable prices and the round has been taking down 200lb animals for 75 years.
