looking for an assault rifle

Here's a pretty good list of what's available currently:

I definitely recommend the AR-180B if you are able to find one. Try posting an ad in the EE. Here's some ideas of what can be done to them:

thanks that's an usefull list

regarding the benelli mr1 (as a retailer) i can tell from what the importer says that it should be avilable arround july for arround 1600$ but i have no info about re barelling

i am not willing to spare more than 1500 on a new firearm with 2000 i could change my car

i could also spare 750$ for a Troy M14 Modular Chassis System to equip my m305 and that could do the job. unfortunatly the 308 is way more expensive than the 7.62x39. anyone have comments to state regarding the troy chassis?

I had the Troy fixation till I finally got one, built the rifle.... And weeks later sold the stock. Too bulky, too heavy.
Tried the Sage EBR, I like it but not for the money they go for.
I had to ask myself if I really needed a modular aluminum stock with all those rails.... Do I really need a tactical chassis to improve the rifle or was I needing it to improve my enjoyment of the rifle.
I settled on a hybrid M4 style pistol grip fiberglass with bottom rail.
Improved handling, superior ergonomics and much lighter.
These days I have gone and designed an all new m14 stock like none other on the market. Full aluminum skeleton overmolded with synthetic. You will see them here some time in the coming months.

that's one of the majors downside of the m1a that mostly every stock has to be expensive but damn they look great. i taught about going vietnam old school with my m305. adding an original springfield wooden stock (with cheek pad) and a big scope but every rifle i end up building looks like that i start by seeking a "tacticool assault like rifle" and end up with a "tacticool huge sniper like rifle" too heavy with too much stuff on it.

Enough with the politically correct newspeak.

We all know what he meant.

Yeah seriously. I'm sure a lot of people (myself included) are wondering more or less the same thing. And thanks fnrob for the "non-restricted black rifles" thread.

You know, when I was in the infantry, the C-7 was never referred to as an assault rifle. It was just referred to as the rifle. I suspect most soldiers, and former soldiers in any army with select fire rifles would likely express similar recollections. "Assault Rifle" has always seemed to me to be something that civvies, especially opponents have used to pigeon hole the rifles. I just wish the the OKW had not designated the Gw 44 the Sturmgewher to appease Hitler. Then this whole mess would not be with us.

Don't be so quick to bust balls. When I was in the forces the C7A1 was always referred to in training and literature as an assault rifle. Of course we didnt walk around calling it that, but that's different. It's even on the CF website here:

I like the configuration for the M305/14S that incorporates a shortened barrel, Phantom style flash hider, vertical pistol-gripped folding stock (such as the one that Lazerus2000 builds), ARMS 18 mount and Aimpoint optic. To me, that not only looks "tacticool", but is very functional: folds down nice for compact storage, is set up for quick, fast hits, and light enough for mobility.

Since you already have your M305, maybe you could build on this configuration for your needs. It would be non-restricted, good for hunting or the range, and you could have a nice supply of inexpensive magazines.

No matter how cool the folding 870 buttstock appears, after handling and playing around with one.... I hated it.
Extremely uncomfortable cheekweld on the buttstocks 1/2" round stock steel .
Any attempt to add a functional cheekrest or riser is impossible as it would prevent the stock from folding down into the locked closed position AND more importantly would completely interfere with function of the oprod.
Try a 100 rounds of match shooting with one of those folders and you'll have one heck of a sore face hehehe
Looks cool, but only function I see is as a seldom used emergency truck or camp gun. In that role, as a special purpose rig, the side folder with 870 buttstock is an excellent choice.

Going excellent.
I have 3 made and of those 2 have been given out for 3 months of serious testing.
Once I've received word from my testers, I'll begin making them availlable. Pics and full details will be released at that time as well.

so far i dont reload but i am keeping my empty shells just in case i might get my hand on a hornady or lee press (rcbs is too expensive) but for the ammo i collect every rounds that customers bring back to me for destruction (ammo forgotten in wet basement for 20 years)

and building on my m305 is not out of my mind i just need to fing a good stock
p.s i cant get to find the Lazerus2000 build

The "lazerus build" is detailed inthe DIY folder sticky in this forum.
Pretty tough even finding one of the 870 buttstocks to so the mod with.
