Looking for first pistol

There is also this thing called a Glock. Look it up if interested in good reviews. There are a few out there by people who fight for a living, etc....

Gee whats a Glock? I have never heard of one...;) Thanks for the tip but Glocks are more than twice the price of the Norcs I was looking at. I wanted to get a lower cost starter gun to use before I spend $700 + on a pistol. Anybody else have opinions on the NP 28 or NP 29? Also would the Norc Sig clones even be worth consideration?

I bought an NP-28 as my first handgun last winter. I have never regretted it. The only hicup is that it prefers round nose bullets. The 147 grain flat nose bullets got jammed up on every 4th or 5th. Since then I only use round nose bullets and have put more than 5K through her last her.

For me fit and finish was very good. I have since picked up a norc 1911 in .45 and if I compare fit and finish and appearance, the 'new' .45 looks like hell, and the 1 year old np-28 looks as good as a new colt.

Take my advice, buy the norc and be happy. Then you will have some money to buy another gun or 2. The np-58 really intrigues me.........

Oh ya, and I have since already picked up a SW model 4506, a glock model 20 (10mm), and a 22 pistol. I love them all but the 2 that get the most action or the 4506 and the np-28..

Later.............

If you're in the $400 range, might be best to find a used name brand pistol (or revolver). Either check out EE here, or places like Elwood Epps/Armco. If you're set on a Norinco 1911 for first pistol, Armco tunes theirs up and offer their own guarantee, which is comforting. And I speak as a multi-Norinco owner :)

The NP 29 has excellent reviews since day one. We are all still waiting for. Having said that if budget is an issue, the Norinco NZ 85 is another 9mm good choice.

Np-29

The NP-29 is a great 9mm on the 1911 platform but they are sold out everywhere and there are several WTB posts for them currently in the EE.

The NP-28, double stack version, would be good but the mags are proprietary and unlike the single stack 9mm 1911 mags sourcing them could be an issue/expense.

The Norinco 1911A1 .45ACP target model for $349 [+ tax] shipped from Can-Am is also a pretty good deal for the money.

Here's a pic of my Norc NP-29 with some after market mods: [stainless ambi-safety; McCormick adjustable trigger, stainless beavertail, hammer, flat ms housing, soft Hogue grip panels, hex grip screws]. It's a "keeper" ;)
