Looking for ideas for a big bore hunting rifle

Looking for ideas for a used big bore hunting rifle (by big I mean larger than a .308) for a man on a budget - I'd prefer not in a calibre that is handload only.

any ideas (calibre and make)?

OK, I'll bite and say .338 Winchester Magnum.
If you want a bush gun then chop it down to 20 inches and put a small magnification scope on it.

Budget. Savage in a 300 WM or 7mm Rem Mag. Good rifle with price to match.Factory ammo everywhere.
You could get the 300 WM or 7mm Rem Mag in a Stevens (savage) for around $400.

Marlin '95 in 45/70 or .450 Marlin if you don't reload, if on a budget....NEF in 45/70.

It depends on how far you plan on shooting. If the range is 200 or less, the .45-70 is great, if farther what about the 350 Rem mag.

35 Whelen is a good choice for a medium bore as you can load it down with 200gr bullets and have fun with it or max it out w/250s. Easy to shoot either way and lots of power for NA.

I'll add my recommendation to the .375 H&H as well. It is surprisingly easy to shoot well, affordable, and there are lots of bullets to choose from. The .375 can do so many things well, there just are not many rifle cartridges that compete with it.

Actually the 9.3x62 was developed in 1905. Sorry it's a 101 years. Still the 7mm Mauser is the mother of all.
