Looking for opinions of the Savage BTVS

Awesome. Please go to rimfire central if you havent already. There is great pics/ vids on the trigger mod.
Along with bedding and the issue with the trigger guard and mag plate. I havent upgraded the guard or plate yet but I know it really helps!
Hope you have a great time with your tackdriver!

Boy hoyt you have an axe to grind or what? Question, do you have a btvs. Yes youve had savages but do you own a btvs? I guess you havent done any reading on the btvs. Guess you havent gone to rimfire central or the savage forums. If you had, youd know Im right about the floor plate and that just a few lbs difference can make a huge difference on group size. A new plate and trigger guard stops the flex that the original parts have. But to you Im just a pain that doesnt know anything. Thanks for being so helpful to the OP.

Well... here is the opportunity for a "life-lesson..." I have a single solitary "beef" with you, or "axe to grind," if you prefer... it is this; your propensity to speak with authority on subjects with which you have ZERO experience, as demonstrated by the quote from you a couple posts above... "I havent upgraded the guard or plate yet but I know it really helps!"

You do this repeatedly, and then have the nerve to argue at length with those that do know. Listen up Little Airwolf... there is room for everyone here, but you need to know it's ok to say "I don't know"... and when you don't have personal, direct experience that is what you SHOULD say... if you like, you can add "but I have read..." which is mostly what you have done.

I have manufactured Savage bottom metal... the trigger guard does nothing other than protect the trigger (Savage's TG is as stiff as any aftermarket TG regarding resisting torque, trigger guards are change from the FV and GV models to the "B" series stocks because they either are built in (FV) or don't fit (GV)), although you seem to think that the TG will somehow aid shooting (???), but I did not say that you were wrong about the magazine plate assisting with controlling shifting torque... I have written at length on it here and on RFC and many other forums...

So you tell me to go to Rimfire Central... and I say to you "you go to RFC" (http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=410229), and go to the Savage forum, and check the stickies... and under the combined stickies check "Blue Danube's Aftermarket Parts" thread (which I wrote), you will find all of the then available aftermarket parts for modding Savage rifles, including tutorials... I'm "hoytcanon" over there also... an if you check the picture threads and back posts you will find many of my projects there.

But in case you are disinclined to do the work... here are a just a few (there have been many more, and if you look carefully you will a number of custom BTVS models);

Hi, can you please tell me where you got the Brake thats on the one with the purple stock, thanks

All of those brakes are made by Ross Schuler in Mountain Home, Idaho... unfortunately Ross does not ship to Canada anymore... the new ITAR regulations make it difficult for small manufacturers...

Interesting reading. I bought a Savage BTVS several years ago, and I run through several thousand rounds in it every summer at Manitoba Gophers. I have found it very accurate, and 100-125 yard hits are routine. On the rare calm day, you can stretch the range out another 25 to 50 yards.

My hunting partner originally used a Ruger 10-22 but quickly saw the accuracy advantage of the Savage, and ordered a BTVS. We have done some minor adjustments to the rifles, but nothing serious except on mine, I turned down the large, heavy shroud on the bolt to give a faster firing pin fall.

Many people have problems with turning DOWN the trigger pull adjustment, and making it too light. This does not allow the sear to securely engage the trigger, and a good thump on the floor can allow the rifle to fire. One modification that does work is putting a lighter spring in the sear and adjusting accordingly. (Hint - a Bic Pen spring works well.)

Because the firing pin is stamped, there is the occasional rough burr left on it. Polishing the sides of the firing pin, and removing the burr is a good thing to do, and improves performance. We had to do this with my friend's rifle.

My rifle shoots Federal Bulk ammo with excellent results and accuracy. This is a good thing, as a few years ago, we cleaned out the local Co-Op store when they were having an end of the season sale. There was a lot of weight on the pick up and we have been shooting it for about four years now.

As mentioned, the rifle should suit your purpose.
