For several years our daughter has had deer tags and despite being a very good shot from the bench she has missed some pretty easy shots. I am not sure if her previous attempts were buck fever, or possibly deliberate misses as she has a pretty soft spot for all of gods creatures. I have known for several years now that she is left eye dominant, but right handed. She shoots the AR as a lefty, but shoots the pistol right handed albeit with a bit more cant. Last year she was 16 and did manage to shoot her first whitetail, a nice 1 shot kill at maybe 75 yards with a RH 243 Remington 700. I have been reluctant to purchase her a rifle that fits her as I was not sure if she would ever be able to pull the trigger with the intent of killing an animal. That is no longer an issue and now she has a bull moose draw, as well as a cow elk draw for this November. I'm looking for a bolt rifle that is left hand, and synthetic, preferably stainless with a detachable magazine. I have looked at a bunch of manufacturers websites and there just isn't much out there. The Remington SPS look pretty cheesy. Browning and Winchester don't have much. There is Weatherby but limited in calibers and I'd like to stay under $1500. I'm thinking 7mm-08, 7mm, 280. Thoughts?

For a bolt action I would left or right handed should not matter unless the stock has a built up cheek rest or you expect having to do rapid followup shots. That being said I have a buddy who is left eye dominant and he got himself a Tikka T3 so you should look into those. You can get them in stainless synthetic too. The other thing to consider is a lever action but you're getting into different calibers then.

I forgot about Tikka. That T3x Lite Stainless is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you.

I have a Tikka T3 varmint LH in .223.. It's probably one of my only 'never sell' rifles. Perfect in every way for me.

T3 Light are a great option. Might kick a bit in bigger calibers, but you can't go wrong with one of these in my opinion.

Well yes it does matter.

P&D had a Browning X bolt in 7mm - 08 in Stainless, Left hand with a muzzle brake. A couple hundred more than I wanted to spend and it's a laminate stock, not synthetic but it I think it will work well so I bought it.

Thanks for all the input & suggestions.

Stock picture. I had it shipped so I didn't have the 3 hour round trip drive. Should be here Wednesday.

Good choice ! Myself and my 2 sons all shoot left. Although I won't trade my 30-06, Tikka T3 - wanted a 7-08 but after 2 years, gave up the search. My oldest son purchased the same rifle as you just did. He likes it. It took him a while to work up an accurate load for it.(thats part of the fun in buying a new rifle). His only complaint, is that the magazine spring fails to compress in cold weather, so the round won't feed into the chamber. We haven't addressed this problem yet, so for now, the rifle is a 2 shot- 1 in the chamber and 1 in the magazine. His does not have a muzzle break. I assume you purchased some good hearing protection for your daughter? Flinching is often caused by the noise more than the recoil!

I shoot a T3x Lite in 300WSM and never even considered the recoil. When I'm bench shooting I'm on a lead sled and when I'm hunting recoil is never felt.

Too late here ... Tikka would be a good choice.

I hear the tikka lites kick like a mule....
I would not worry about that in 7-08, 6.5X55 or .243.

I think you did well with a Browning.
