Looking for sources for quality SxS shotguns

Hey guys

I’m looking into getting my hands on a quality sub gauge SxS. I’m aware that Intersurplus has a pile of SxS for sale, but I’ve found that most of them have 2.5” chambers and tend to have open chokes, and are 12ga.

My budget is ~3k. Does anyone have a recommendation for a shop or source that tends to carry these guns. I’ve done a fair bit of research, so I have a pretty good idea what I’m looking for, but am looking to broaden my search a little. Alternatively, if you have anything like this that you’re looking to move, feel free to PM me.
Since you did not specify that you are only interested in "domestic" sources, "Guntrader" is a good source for what you seek, not only because they are located where the type of gun you seek is popular and common (unlike Canada), but it is a very nice and easy to navigate website. Even if you are nt interested in importing, it is a good place to establish what is out there and their value. Here is the list of 20GA sxs's currently listed. Of course, feel free to change the search parameters to whatever you want. https://www.guntrader.uk/Guns-For-Sale/results/afe8-9e72-9e0f-b799

Go through intersurplus you won’t be disappointed. I just ordered a nice Glasgow built double from them. If you take the time and read all the specs for each individual one, and have already done your homework on British makers, you’ll occasionally find a real gem hiding in there.

Has anyone recommended the Beretta Parallelo SxS? I recall a certain mod here bought one and liked it. :)

When I looked for myself at the time they were around $500, which I think is quite reasonable.

EDIT FOR TYPO: correction, make that $5000, lol.

I’ve looked into a 2.5” 12, but the local shops around have all told me they can’t get the ammo right now. That’s why I’ve switched to looking at a 16 or 20.

An alternative would be to buy a nice ,light , 2 1/2" 12 gauge , and learn how to hand load low pressure 12 gauge ammo.
There is a lot of good data out for them, components are readily available, and you can do it without a press, all with hand tools.
If one looks at how much they are realistically planning on shooting in a year, it often is the best bet for someone wanting to shoot a vintage gun.

You must be thinking of something totally different my friend. The Beretta Parallelo retails close to $9,000 and no new Beretta SxS had sold for $500 in living memory. Check at Prophet River I think they have one.

I think he may of left out a zero. Assuming US$’s he is close.:)

Typo, about 5 years ago the Parallelo was going for about $5000 from a Canadian source and now I wish I'd bought one. (If that was in US funds, that fact escaped my notice, but I don't think so.)

With modern ammo, the ONLY shells that have a reduced peak pressure (ie below 11,000 psi) are labelled low pressure. Not "light", not "low brass", not "target loads" and not 2 1/2". What signifies low pressure is a label that says low pressure.
This makes my head hurt !:p
I got asked the other day if I would load some ammo for a fella who had heard I shoot vintage guns and he had a " antique Belgian shotgun".
His request was for " only low brass ammo because I have a 2 1/2" chamber".
When I tried to explain to him that low brass -high brass - 2 1/2" versus 2 /34" and pressure differences thing he started telling me I was wrong because he knew for a fact that high brass ammo was " more powerful".

In the end I told him I couldn't help him , which is true, people like that are beyond help!:(

Amen! He's probably the same guy who brought his rifle into a local shop one day because "something was wrong" with his rifle after chambering and firing an incorrect 7mm chambering. "Well the ammo is Remington just like the rifle and says 7mm on both" was his statement after he found out his rifle's chamber and bolt were heavily damaged.
Also reminds me of the fellow I met on a job who was firing 300 Win Mag ammo through his 300 Rum because Reminton 300 Rum ammo was more expensive than 300 Winchester Mag ammo made by Winchester. There was no explaining the differences to him. In his head 300 Mag was 300 Mag and Remington ammo was more expensive than Winchester.

I have encountered several people like that myself, they simply have no clue, and they can't be helped. I even caught two people shooting shot at paper targets on our centerfire range, which isn't allowed, because it damages the backboards, but they tried to argue that it was okay, because the shotshells were labeled target loads.

Us as well, but we still encounter people shooting shot anyway even though the sign is right there as you enter the range.

May I ask why shot is not allowed?. The only thing I can think of is people using tight chokes at close range and blowing big huge holes in the plywood target stands, I would HOPE that people don't do $hit like that but, people are people so........is that it or something else.

We did until someone abused the rules. Chip board gets chewed up pretty quickly. They found chip board lasted better than plywood on the rifle range. Our patterning board is just a pallet.
