Do you recognize the fact that at the distances this thread is discussing no shot can be made with Confidence on an Animal due to the significant Time the Bullet would need to Travel?
Or do you not care that a 1000Yd shot at any Animal is unethical or immoral,,,
This is not a true statement ... I shoot 1000yds all the time. I would have no problem making a shot on game at that distance. With the new high BC bullets and new powders .. combined with the latest in range finding technology and optics ... 1000yrds is not a difficult shot even in wind if you are practicing all the time.
I personally do not shoot game that far just because that is one hell of a long way in the field and I can always get closer. I have only taken a shot as far as 733 and it was not a big deal. I prefer to keep the shots on game inside 600 as with the current equipment I am running its like making a 2 or 300 yard shot with the standard hunting gear most guys run.
If you don't think a 1000 yard shot is ethical its because you havnt done it. Anyone that shoots 1000 yards all the time will know weather or not the conditions that are present are going to allow them to make an ethical shot , and if they don't .... They are a*sh*les
As for the crap they are pumping on these long range shows on TV ... they should all banned from hunting. Some of the crap ive seen these guys do makes me sick ! the hunters these guys are selling there gear to are typically guys with lots of money that want a quick fix for taking something they are to lazy to walk to ... They are not true long range shooters, or hunters for that matter.
Making consistant Long Range shots is something you need to keep doing nearly weekly ... as well as constantly maintain your rifle at home and checking your loads all the time making sure your gear is functioning properly. Spending a bunch of money and pulling your gun out once every 9 months and shooting at game a 1000 yards makes your an as*h*ole !!!
If you don't have that much time ... just enjoy shooting 1000+ yards when you can , its a lot of fun. When the time comes a 500 yard shot will be a piece of cake.
