Looking info on .270

The 270 seems to have fallen out of favour these days for some newer wizz-bangs. The fact remains that it was and still is a fine BG cartridge and in fact is one of the finest introduced in the last century.

Very few will see the longevity it enjoys.

There’s nothing to say that hasn’t been said. 270 win would definitely be my do it all cartridge choice. I only shoot 06 because of the rifle it was built around. For me it’s perfect. T3 in a Wildcat stock.

I love light weight, low bolt throws, the beautiful single stage trigger and for me a detach mag is a plus because I move locations a fair bit.

You need to decide what you want and need in your rifle. So many good options these days. I’d also stick with 22-24” pipe. If you go shorter, I’d go 7-08/308

I have a stainless T3 in 270 and its great. Easy to handload for and had 150gr interlocks shooting 5 shot, 1" groups with very little effort. It may get overlooked now with the hype of new cartridges but its a proven performer in the field. If you could have only one rifle to hunt deer it would be hard not to pick a 270 win and it can handle elk / moose sized game as well.
 
A CRF Model 70 for new or used

A high-condition, unaltered Husqvarna 1600 for used.

The two best working-man's rifles ever made.

For higher-end gun, well, the sky's the limit, but they won't shoot any better then the two I listed.
 
tikka recommendation as it's long action and long magazine anyway, the .270 win has long been my favourite 20th century cartridge, a true 600 yard cartridge with modern bullets, the one I had shot lots of factory ammo sub-moa and much close to half, look for fusion ammo for test day, I shot the 130's out to 700 in mine...tackdriver with that stuff

other rifles I lust over now are ruger Hawkeye hunter which apparently has out 70'd the model 70 now....if that price range and crf hinged is your jam.....not sure if it's chambered in .270 though?

the smart no fuss would likely be the tikka lite stainless, go with an area 419 rail milled down to zero moa, taper it like a turd at both ends to clear objective and eyepiece of a trijicon accupoint 3-9x40 green dot duplex or green mil-dot, weaver 1' low detach top mount rings that put that alignment perfect, objective 1/16" or less off the bore, maybe grab the pistol grip, and high desert aluminum bottom with the oversize trigger guard and you're done....that is tikka perfection...I just built that very thing on 308 and cut barrel to 20"....but a .270 with the exact same build would call to leave the barrel length right where it is and would be an amazing, robust, do all to 600+, you could add 5 round mags, a sap 2-round shell holder on stock (I did), and there could be more...you can polish some rear bolt bits to smooth and lighten the heavier bolt lift (heavier due to being short throw) and lots of guys seem to like sterk swept back handle...but I think a lot of that is to snick things up for prs type shooting, not needed at all for hunter as they cycle like greased lightning out of the box

Yes, that would be my choice too. One of the finest bolt actions ever designed according to the experts. They come labelled 'Husqvarna', 'Carl Gustaf', 'Viking Arms', and 'Zoli' with "1900" added--all the same action. Greatly superior to most actions, older and modern. Many can be found used at Intersurplus in 6.5x55, 30-06, and 9.3x62 chamberings in the $700-$800 price range. Great value for the money.

It all depends on what your criteria is , your budget , and what you will be using the rifle for . If you want an all weather hunting rifle that you don't need to worry about , get a Savage Axis in stainless with a polymer stock , put a decent scope on it , and never look back . Most all modern rifles shoot like laser beams these days if the user can do their part ; and Savage's and Ruger's are hard to beat price , durability , and performance wise .
 
M70 super grade is a work of art, and in .270 hard to beat, but for more utility I would go T3X or X bolt
