looking to buy first shot gun

LOL, I'll pit my 90 some odd ducks and geese against your 60 grouse. J/K. You have to realize duck hunting is very different than ground pounding a grouse. Grouse are slow and shot at close distance, verse a waterfowl which is much faster and shot at greater distance. Not saying it can't be done, just not ideal. I'm sure I can take my extrema for HD as well, but not the gun I take if needs arise. If duck hunting is best done with a pistol grip, I"m sure between duck commander and foiles, one of the face painters would've been using one.

I think lebaron had the 870 tac for about that price last fall, they still have a plain jane 8 shot in the catalog for under 4.

i dont think for one minute my valtra with properly selected choke installed would leave anybody at a disadvantage in a duck blind or any other of the shooting sports they happen to be one of the best made shotguns out there chrome lined barrel to boot no doubt it would last a lifetime if properly cared for but thats just my take on it and i feel this way about any of the other good tactical type shotguns out there so long as they will accept choke tubes,iam looking for the new benneli tactical 14 inch supernova i want to get it threaded for chokes and iam sure this will be even handier in the thick stuff for my loved use of a shotgun grousse hunting
 
I think grouse hunting is very different. I love my HP9 for grouse as they are very handy (although not light). I don't think there are a lot of thick stuff for ducks except jumping some beaver ponds, even then it's not like grouse and bunnies.

I still think traditional style is better for wingshooting in general or else all competitive clay shooters would be sporting a short barrel pistol grip.

Of course a choke tube is a must if you plan to hunt with it.

i understand your point but as for saying grousse are slow no way try hunting them in a heavily hunted area the little buggers will flush at the sound of a dry leave crunching and if there smarter ones they run like road runner weaving and ducking then when you think you got a shot there off flying like wildfire if your not quick you will come home empty handed, i can respect your wanting a longer barrel shotgun if your just gonna use it in the duck blind but the shorter barrel guns are such a good do all gun i only added a rifled slug barrel to mine to use for deer in areas where it is shotgun only if i were to be able to only own one firearm it would be my 870 tactical in its current config good for defense small game big game and action shooting sports

well we can agree on the choke tubes lol but as for the wingshooters i think the only reason your not seeing some of the tactical stuff out there on the lines is people are afraid to break away from traditions as for me iam not a trend follower when it comes to firearms i like to think iam a trend setter in my area. i used to think what the hell a red dot on a shot gun what a waste until i tried one ill never have a gun with out one now. the biggest problem i have when i go hunting is when deciding which gun iam gona use with 3 gun cabinets overflowing i sometimes need to stand back and scratch my head and think about what iam gonna use that day

better yet try one of the burris spead beads that have the mounting plate that mounts between the rear stock and the rear of the receiver(there gun specefic and made for most of the well known makers) there quite handy a little bit of the new technology on the more traditional guns dont hurt

LOLz, too cheap to buy one, but I have a red dot sitting around somewhere for some experimenting. I'm sure I'm knock the crap out of a speed bead the first week of the season. But if it works well on the range...

i shouldent have called my eotech a red dot damn its actually a holographic sight not sure if your familier with them but they have square glass and offer a nice open field of view a conventional style red dot they arent the best in my opion for a shotgun i like the more open field of view the eotech gives but the speed beads are nice as its not like your looking through a tunnel
 
Yeah, I remember one of my uncle's friend had one when I was a kid. It was called a hollowsight? or something. Not sure if they still make those.

that would have been a bushnell made eotech they look almost identical but be carefull bushnell does not service them anymore and neither will eotech but they were a good sight
 
so tactical stuff is a no go for hunting? i might be missing something but a pistol grip stock would affect its ability too shoot ducks? im not talking about red dot sights and flashlights and having ammo strapped all over the gun like rambo. But I a fan of the stock like the one in the pic i posted on page 1. I was doing some more reasrch and learned about chokes and stuff and how it affects the shot spread like an open and closed choke i think is what it was?so id want a wide spread for duck and more of narrow direct one (closed i think) for blasting gophers;am i on the right track here? i think im going to ask around my archery and bowhunting buddies too see if they have one and try shooting them and see if i like it.

Its due to chokes for the shot pattern, but also a longer barrel helps with long shots, for shooting ducks.
 
Long barrel help with your swing. If jimbo is correct, with practice, you should be able to hit some ducks with it. Generally speaking, duck hunting is a full/ mod game, so interchangable choke would be idea.
