for some advice on what scope to put on a cz 455 american .22lr will be used mostly for target plinking and some light varmint control. dont know much about scopes so i'm hoping u guys can pitch in a little.

well the gun was around 5 so i'd like to keep the scope at least well under another 5...i know quality is exp but it is just a toy!

Try a Vortex Crossfire, you can pick the magnification you want but with their new BDC reticule you can have some fun without blowing the bank. Leaves you more room for ammo. I think with the new Crossfire line up they are almost exceeding their Diamondback line up. If you want to spend more coin, go with a Viper, but really on your 22 the Crossfire is all you need.

I "settled" for a Nikon Prostaff 2-7 Shotgun scope for my 452 Standard. Nice and bright for the price, just the right magnification range, good eye relief, and 75yd parallax. It sits in the right spot for me, so it stays on the rifle. However, I now also have a 452 Scout, and I've tried a few different "no-cost" scopes (ie. extra scopes I have in the safe) on it, to no avail. The length and shape of the stock is different, so the ring height, scope weight and tube length, and eye relief play a part in trying to get it just right... I will likely end up splurging (in reference to my budget anyways...) on a Leupold VX-1 2-7x28 rimfire scope for the Scout.

All that just for this kernel of perhaps questionable wisdom: What works for others may not be right for you. You may have to try out a few different ring and scope combinations on your American before you get it just right for you.

By the way, good choice for a plinker - so don't settle for a crappy scope, or a nice scope that's does not suit your needs...
