first, i NEVER load directly from the horn or flask anyway- i use a home made powder measure-then dump into the bore- but i had to use the one from my pistol that day, and it throws 60, not 100 grains- hence the 2 charges- and the minie was seated AGAINST the second charge- and it was loose black powder- not pellets- they didn't have those in that day- it was all black or nothing- even pyrodex wasn't around yet- HAD i used my ramrod as a measureing tool, i would have seen the gap in the powder charge-i keep that rifle at the back of my safe to remind me of what happens when you don't seat the round properly- or sure, i could get it cut off and turn it into a musketoon or something, but the range i now use doesn't allow black anyway, and the romance has worn off- personally, i still wonder if that black hadn't gone "bad" in the can- like absorbed moisture or something
