lots of SKS's

'52 Range Results

Went to the range Friday May 1. Results of my '52 SKS at 100 yds., benched w/ open sights. Ammo - Czech surplus.
The first five rounds did not hit the target board, much less any of the 4 paper targets stapled side-by-side.(didn't have any rifle target paper). Frustrated, had my friend shoot while I spotted. After another 10 rounds it was clear the gun was shooting high. My shooter friends are SKS nuts and we proceeded to make adjustments.

After starting to hit the board was finally able to get the 1st paper target.

Fun time - 25 yds. 5 rounds rapid fire In standing position

Shooter friend was sighting his '56 and grouped better. In my case, it was a lot of work with satisfying results! Time to do the '53 next week after that, maybe buy the 3rd???:runaway:

Also it should be noted....

the Lever SKS's have the fixed magazine and operate on stripper clips

Go to the Red Rifles Forum, it is a sticky there. Give it a read.

Yes, the SKS' at Lever have fixed mags and use stripper clips, ALL Russian SKS' do!

Once you are finished Curtton's thread, READ through the Red Rifle Forum, you will learn lots about the SKS'.
Do some research.

I plan to go down to lever to pick one up.

But, being a noob, i'm not sure i'd know how to tell what is good quality and what isn't..

I'd be looking at the year it was produced, if it has a chrome lined barrel, painted bolt and a laminated stock but that's about it.

What else should I be paying attention to and how do I check for it?

Pretty lousy shot if you ask me, you missed the cordless phone every time!

Missed the phone on purpose. It an original Panasonic "made in Japan". A collectable! LOL
