Yup,just look in another actual thread what Kurgan did to his birch stock (you've probably seen it already)...I'm sure that was quite a work but the outcome is "stunningly beautiful"-and he did it right! Respect...

I have seen it.. It is a bit of work to bring it to the level he has, but worth all the effort when you see how beautiful an SKS stock can be.

Now about that accuracy?...:p

yup just picked one up today watched a you tube video to learn how to strip it down. clean in the a.m shoot in afternoon, damm cosmoline:ar15:
 
I got my first sks in the late 80s, and it still causes mayhem in the gravel pit. Something that never seems to tire or become dull. A great rifle to learn off hand shooting with low prices on ammo and rifles.
 
So far I have 4 of the little buggars ,1949,1950,1953 and 1954 tulas,ammo is cheap but it seems to run out the muzzle like iron diarhea,so you will spend as much on ammo but have a ton of fun.Now I am waiting for Marstar to finally get those yugo 59/66's in. If they are anywhere decent in price and condition ,I gotta have one!

Here is my little collection so far...two Chinese and one Russian 1953 Tula....it had the Black Bolt but i stripped the paint as i like the Silver look.

Is the consensus here that unrefinished SKS's are a better puchase?? what about laminate stock v. unlaminated or silver bolt v. otherwise? Dont have an SKS but I too might have to convert!

My Russian is a refurb and my 2 Chinese are in factory new condition...but i plan to buy one more unissued laminate Russian if possible. Buy an SKS you will never be sorry.
