Low Cost Starter 9mm

If budget is a concern then perhaps look for a Norinco NZ85B. I've seen used ones for around $300 and It's a pretty good clone of the CZ85B. I picked up a slightly used one, spent an extra $25 on some Hogue grips and another $25 on a better mainsping and recoil spring and it's a fantastic shooter. Great trigger feel and very accurate. it's one of their best. I think Marstar still has new ones for $400. The NP-22 is a well rated Sig P226 clone as well. Or a Norinco 1911 in 9mm might be a good choice too.

I bought a NZ85 new; put a set of CZ over-molded rubber grips on it; it has an excellent trigger and is very accurate; I will likely never sell it. I had an NP58 (..40 sig clone); fount the grip too big for me, long gritty trigger, and long reset on the trigger; sold it. Norks 9mm 1911 are good pistols as well. Had one, liked it, upgraded to a Nork 1911 in .45. NZ85 is one of the best pistols Nork has ever built.

M&P 9 sucks,
Take a look at the Canik TP9 elite
There’s a few side by side comparisons and the Canik holds its own.
And the reviews are saying they have the best Stryker fired trigger out of the box.

My former Pastor has one; bought it new (range kit with holster and mag pouch), it is a very comfortable pistol, shoots very well. It likes moderate to heavier loads; my light target loads do not cycle it consistently... but that is something that is easily fixed with a lighter recoil spring if you want to shoot light loads. I am more accurate with my NZ, but then I have put thousands of rounds through it.

Thanks. The one is $100 more then the rest. I wonder what the difference is between v1 and v2.

To all of you mentioning doing a .22 first. I've been advised that quite a few times too by others. In fact I've shot a .22 handgun lots of times. Just not the same to me. I did learn pretty fast though about how terrible of a shot I am! Range instructor really helped me with it and I've been doing much better.

Someone else mentioned FN. I used to use the FNA1 in the reserves years ago. I know they are prohibited but I'd love to have one for nostalgia's sake. I did't know they made pistols too.

General consensus is that the 2 has a better trigger (I have not compared the two myself).

Lol, true story Still alive :)
It's a good thing nobody said Glocks suck or I might have cried lol
Oh yeah, to the OP- - - buy a Glock 19!

I never claimed a glock sucked. In fact I know its probably the most solid gun out there. I was able to shoot one with a cz side by side to compare and I was way more accurate and it felt better in my hands with the CZ. Especially the trigger. I guess I really need to hopefully go in and handle a couple others to see. Right now I just want to start off with something solid but not too overwhelming or expensive.

CZ P10 F, I have one and it's perfect for me. One of the issues I had with finding a handgun in my price range was the grip length due to my large hands. I really liked the Canik but that and the Glock grips were too short for my taste. Got a good price on the CZ as well so was able to pick up 3 more mags and a Pelican case to hold it all.......

Well now that you mention it..I was going to add the Glock as a second place in the sucks department, but I know there’s way more Glock fanboys, and I couldn’t handle all the hate that would have been unleashed on me.. lol

All joking aside though, they’re all great pistols and will do basically the same thing.

I’ve owned most, including a couple shadow 1 and 2s

Maybe take a look at S&W SVDE 9 , cheap but well made.

Thats also my issue. Large hands. Which is why I think I need to really handle them first before I buy.

Damn this sucks ... I want to go shoot so bad.

Everyone has a "want" for their own reasons. The first pistol I bought was an M&P 9MM in the range kit package. I took several courses, competed in three disciplines and have a lot of rounds through it. I also have a Glock, a CZ as well. The M&P is not my favourite of the bunch because it is a Plain Jane but it is by far the best value and has performed very well for me. It may not be your last pistol but it would make a great first pistol!

X2.

Funny that he would diss the M&P and recommend the more inferior brother.

A used M&P in excellent condition and a new SD9 are about $100 apart. OP, I would save for the better M&P if that pistol is your goal.
Well if your looking at cheap , can’t get much cheaper than the $300 svde

which glock did not fit you?

Another vote for the CZ P10C.
Great trigger, ergonomics and reliability.
I couldn't get used to the "hinged" trigger of the M&P and couldn't justify upgrading it either.
Plus, the CZ P10C with suppressor height sights, threaded barrel and extended magazine bases look and feel so nice.
CZ P10F is better for larger hands and can be usually be found for around $520 but Tenda is out of stock.
