I would purchase an anschutz with iron sites and shoot it at 20 and 50 no paralax problems there. Consider the pot stirred......
If you do want to go with a scope for short-range - get a set of rings for it. It's a lot easier to attach/detach a scope+rings to a base, than to open up rings, remove scope, replace with another scope, re-affix rings.
I don't know what kind of bases and rings you ended up settling on, but many kinds of base+ring systems allow for very good return-to-zero (except for the "Redfield" system, with its two "windage screws" at the rear ring).
