For some reason the 25-06 and 257 weatherby have absolutely dominated that 25 cal spot over the last few years in readily available factory chambered rifles, but the 250 sav has been around for many years and has killed almost everything in North America
I suppose the short answer to why they are so available is because people are buying them, and they're buying them because they are fast. That's sort of the recurring theme with 25s.
Take your 250 Savage, or 250-3000 as it was originally named. Savage was pretty proud of that 3000 part once, brought courtesy of Newton who hacksawed enough off a 25-06 to fit in their rifles. While today's enthusiasts will wax eloquent about the mild mannered .250 it was first sold as a fire-breathing dragon with a trigger. Fastest thing around. People haven't changed much.
