low velocity pellets for mice

I found this trap a lot more efficient than me+airgun combo.I tried flat nosed target pellets from Princess Auto and they do work well.

Thats what we use, and it works fantastic. It operates 24/7 all on its own and there is no escaping once in the bucket of water.

I've seen a few different methods of trapping mice and from what I've heard they work very well. Maybe TOO well. They are only usable IF (and only IF) you visit the site every day. Leave it for more than a day and you'll require a Hazmat suit just to approach the site. A friend had a setup similar to the above but didn't visit it for a day or 2. When he finally returned the decomposition had set in and he told me the smell was beyond compare. I think I'll try one of these out in the backyard by the fence. It seems mice and perhaps rats are making visits. I really have to learn how to post photos on this site. I'm a bit on the old side and not very computer savvy. Something I'll have to do for the New Year. Thanks all for the responses.

Just toss a cup of bleach into the water before setting the trap. Bingo bango.

We have used that setup for years and never have had any bad smells, did he put a few inches of water in the pail?

Magellann, it's been a few years since we discussed this but I do remember him telling me about the odour and how bad it was. I'm certain he used water because mice can jump a considerable height without it. I've seen mice trying to jump out of a garbage pail that was near 24" tall and ALMOST making it. For certain they got up at least 1/2 way. I'll have to give this trap a try. Though I've seen several pics of this trap, I've yet to try it myself. Time to give it a go.

We used to feed our large dogs in their runs in steel bowls. They caught many mice. The little buggers went in after crumbs, and could only jump straight up, no traction to run up the side in the bowl.

Used a couple of the log roll traps in my shop outside Edmonton. Some antifreeze keeps the bucket from freezing, kills the mice very quickly when cold and poisons the buggers when its warmish. Not good if pets have free run, though.

add a cup of anti-freeze or just use the pre mixed stuff. I scoop out the mice and toss them into the garbage.

Pour some cooking oil on top of the water. Keeps the smell down.

never heard of that. sounds a lot easier for disposal than my current method of pouring it back into a jug and taking it in for disposal.

That would be my reason to not have a pool if it was the case ..Ugh

Add chipmunks, toads, frogs, baby birds and far too many insects to that list, even when shocking with high chlorine levels. Little pricks have no issue setting up shop in the pool shed even if the chlorine is unbearable to humans. Last year when I opened the pool a mouse and a bunch of babies came shooting out the return line and were scattered on the bottom. Baby mice are likely my chickens favorite snack, they turn vicious and devour them...

I've tried shooting mice indoors in the past and to me it simply isn't worth the effort and risk of damage. Great fun outdoors though and as a teen I would lay items in long grass and the mice would build nests and live under this stuff. It was great fun to quickly lift whatever it was, usually plywood, and shoot them before they could make it to the surrounding long grass. Pellets put in backwards ripped huge holes in them, but accuracy is far more important than type of pellet as any hole through them is good enough.

When I was a kid I used my slingshot, ammunition was a pouch full of wet sand. Stunned them long enough to finish them off with what have you. I had a camp fire.

I had squirrels invaded my house one fall Dam buggers !! They can really tear a place up ! Tried shooting them with 22 shot shells , they just pissed them off . Had to get creative with my tactics ( thought about and Decided against 22 L and shorts ) finally got them with rat sticky traps ( two of them )after I found where they were getting in . I really snapped the morning I woke up with one sitting on my clock radio ( I just happened to wake up moments before the alarm went off ) scared the crap out of me (I went in to full rambo mode after that ) would have made a great utube video LOL!! ( Elmer Fudd on crack!!) Steel wool and spray foam fixed the hole . Got the rest of the family out side with the 22 ! ( seven of them furry tailed rats ) then a couple years later ring tails bandits got in to my attics house and garages ( my Neighbor was putting out cat food at night for a wild cat, most likely a old barn puss) didn't realize the one in my house attic wasn't a cat untill after it charged me ( cheeky basturd ) didn't want to bust a cap in him untill I could get him out of roof . Found where he was getting in installed a one way trap door ( cat food as bait ) it took all most a week before it would come out all the way !! Thought it was gone but no! Just moved in to the garage roof by chewing threw the back Pinion wall corner . The fat #### brought down most of my ceiling . Back to war !! Him ,three others a bit smaller and five kits . This time I had some patching to do that spring on the roof !!

no more coffee while reading.. almost cost a keyboard. My old neighbor had a raccoon fall through his ceiling while he was on vacation. the trash panda was sleeping on his bed when he came home. I wouldnt have believed it if I didn't see the damage in person.

Right now I'm at 8 squirrels in the garage, 1 more to go. The elusive tree rat seems to be able to figure out when I have the .22 and when I don't.
