Lrb M14sa

SKBY...I think that milson wilson was wondering how it was the state department would not allow export of individual USGI M14 parts (such as a gas cylinder or a trigger group), but would allow export of a civilian semi auto M1a type receiver with a whole bunch of USGI parts hanging off it. An interesting question....:)....as much as I'd like to understand it (and I don't), I'm just glad they approved the rifle export.

state dept will approve parts, just have to jump through the hoops.... and not order so much that think you are reselling. if they are satisfied that you are the end user, and follow the procedure (they love procedure) you can be o.k. ....... In my experience anyways. Try to order several of one item.... have fun.... been there, done that, with unsatisfactory results

an interesting thing i have found , and this is only in my limited experience..... an individual going through an importer such as questar.... for a few m14 items.... such as a bolt, barrel, trigger group would have an easier time getting approval than a dealer here trying to source those parts for retail and get approval from state dept. This is just my limitited experience /perception anyways. It seems that they need to be able to verify an legal end user to make things go smoothly. I often wonder if this situation and my perception of it, are why there are no canadian dealers sourcing usgi parts for resale to us canadian shooters.
can anyone with more experience in these matter s chime in.... mind you this conversation sorta should be in the legalese forum

That's a beauty and that set up with the scout mount is excellent. I love intermediate eye reliefs on M14s. I just wish they would make a good variable scope for them. Uh oh...my #### is falling off!

SkullBoy, I just checked this link on the LRB Arms web site.
http://www.lrbarms.com/rifles1.html
It describes their rifle as "... assembled with all USGI parts except flash suppressor."

From reading other threads in the Battle Rifles forum, I had been under the impression the U.S. State Department doesn't like us.

Wolverine Supplies' web site reaffirmed that notion when I read that the U.S. State Department will only let them "supply (Vltor) stocks for official police and Military customers."
http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/default.asp?Pg=8&do=3&mcid=13&scid=33&pid=165

Based on this thread, the U.S. State Department might only be worried about large shipments to Canadian dealers. Or perhaps they have recently relaxed their policies regarding the average hoser. Or maybe some beareaucrat got laid the night before he stamped Brobee's permit.

Either way, I'm happy if my assumption was incorrect.

well... i am inspired, and have gotten the green light from the importer to proceed. I want the LRB receiver with rail..... the m25 version :D
the piggy bank will need a BIG boost for this purchase..... and i pause.... to ask myself if i am nuts to spend that kinda cake on a railed receiver ..... will run ballpark 1400 to 1500 hun delivered.... then add kreiger dmr barrel arriving in august (thx to a dealer here :D) and full set of HR parts/trw niw bolt..... :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: and next year at my therapy session ...... Hi my name is thomas ..... and i'm a hopelessly addicted gunnut :D :D
you only live once

Actually, that price isn't that much more than a pimped Springer - that gun, however, is much more than a pimped Springer. Very, Very Nice.

Dream mode ON!

+ 1 on the scope comment. What would be even better would be a fixed 2 or 3 power intermediate eye relief scope that had a decent externally adjustable elevation turret with a zero stop. *sigh*....I've been contemplating having M1 turrets installed on a leupold scout scope but the photograph the leupold custom shop guy sent me just looks plain strange. I wish someone did an scout scope with turrets like the new nightforce low power variables....*sigh*

Anybody have that kind of influence in the scopemaker world?

I can't imagine the market would be very big, but hell...I'd buy two or three!

Dream mode OFF....

I was told up front by the questar guys that there was no guarantees with respect to the state department approving the export permit; in fact that there was real risk that it could be denied and they suggested that while this had happened to them in the past they had also had some approved. It's a little unsettling when opening up the wallet to think that the outcome of the endeavour is subject to a large degree of qualitative judgement (or perhaps just plain mood?!?!) of a foreign government official, however if you don't apply you don't give them the opportunity to say yes. I'm not sure how exactly they worded the paperwork, but the sun must have been shining over the state department office that day 'cause it came back approved! I was pretty excited....:)

With respect to the USGI parts used in the build, I was somewhat pleasently surprised however one of my two springfields (imported via different importers) showed up with a large number of USGI parts in it also. How does the reasoning go behind the state department allowing this? I don't know but I'm not going to complain.

Build Details:

  • LRB M14SA receiver with mixmaster Winchester & H&R parts
  • 18.5 inch medium weight non-chrome lined barrel
  • Sadlak op rod spring guide
  • Sadlak Ti Gas Piston
  • Smith Enterprise Direct Connect Vortex
  • Smith Enterprise Dovetail Gas Lock Front Sight
  • Walnut Stock
  • 5 round magazine
  • leather sling
  • fabric carrying case
  • cleaning kit

Costs:

$2233.00 = $2300US @ 1.03US/Can
$225.00 - Import/Export Paperwork
$223.92 - GST and shipping from Questar's Canadian Office
-------------
$2681.92 All-In

Pretty pricey but have a gander at a USGI Norinco Build:

$400 - Norinco Receiver
$350 - New USGI Bolt with all guts
$300 - USGI Operating Rod
$300 - USGI Gas assembly
$250 - USGI Barrel
$100 - SE Vortex
$100 - SE Dovetail Gas Lock Front Sight
$250 - USGI Stock complete with all hardware
$75 - Sadlak Op Rod Guide
$25 - USGI Op Rod Spring
$300 - USGI Trigger Group
$100 - USGI Rear Sight Assembly
---------
$2550

And it does not include things like the tools you need to check headspace, barrel vice/action wrench or any of the hourly work required to part/thread barrels etc etc etc. Now about here is where Hungry will chime in and tell you that your #### won't actually fall off if you shoot your Norinco without all these USGI parts and you know what...

HE'S RIGHT!

There is not alot wrong with the chinese guns other than their stocks and rear sight assemblies; a couple hundred bucks will fix that up for a fraction of the cost of an LRB.

I have many chinese M14s with varying degrees of USGI upgrades (some are almost bare bones chinese! GASP!) and I enjoy shooting the crap out of them. But I love this type of rifle and there is something special about one that has a bit more soul (and good looks to boot!)...something I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford. At least that's what I keep telling myself....:)

your prices for some of the USGI parts are way more than I have been paying or getting.

I put stoney point turrets on my burris 2.75 IER. They do look a bit silly but they proved to be very useful especially at Service Condition Matches.

A bran new National Match Sproingfield was availaible by the end of 2007 at only $1800 at Questar. Yes, you can read "National Match", the one with the bedded action, not only the "Loaded" or "Standard" ones.:D

I sold a hr op rod on E bay several months ago, got $125.00 if I remember right, complete trigger group (hr) $100.00

I have never found Norinco parts to be wanting for my or my friends uses (other than some sights). Yes they are long on headspace, so what? If you handload adjust your sizing die to match your headspace.

Some people claim excessive headspace affects accuracy. I have found all of the current Marstar Norinco's are just as accurate as all of the real M-14's I have had.

How is your stock production coming?

blah blah blah Norinco....
blah blah blah Springfield...

White noise in an otherwise great post. You have an awesome rifle there mate. Rare as mice nuts here too. Thanks for the photos.
