Hi All
I got a nasty habit of avoiding any contact of gunpowder and petrochemicals of any kind. I don't remember how exactly it happened. Now - I have started experimenting with cast bullets and can't make it to the range for several weeks, ammo sitting ready. This makes me worry.

My question is there any chance of powder / primers deterioration due to contact with oils in bullet lube, especially home made on out of candles - paraffin with oil additives, lithium (?, sp?) grease etc.

People have been using lubed bullets in cartridges for well over a hundred years and this does not seem to have been a common problem. I think you'll be ok but I guess it might depend on your lube.

Is your lube likely to melt at room temperature and run into the powder/primer?? If so, you probably need to find another lube recipe.

I have stored lubed/cast cartridges for years before using them and never had a problem, and neither has anyone else I have ever heard of. Manufacturers load this style of cartridge andf they don't use a barrier. It's most definitely not a problem unless you have some really odd lube.

Thanks! I use alox and some billets are pre-lubed with red (I think it's dragon-something- lube company magnum brand) lube, neither seems to be melting, so I should be OK.

Thanks you all.
