My first rifle ever was a Winchester model 270 pump .22. I traded an old McCullough chainsaw for it, this was in the early 70's. It had a plastic forearm and plastic front and rear sights. This was one of the quintessential post '64 Winchester product offerings and reeked of the cheapness from that period. Next was a Win. m1890 originally in .22 short, that was relined and chambered to .22 LR. his was a good rifle, and chambered everything except "Stingers". Nicely accurate, and easy to cycle from the shoulder. I sadly traded it off after a few months...
My current pump .22 is an early Marlin Model 38 with Octagon barrel. This models take-down feature is simpler and faster than any other manufacturers offering past or present, it literally takes down in seconds!
It is from the era well before the hyper velocity .22 shells became popular, and is quite valuable so I only run CCI subsonic, or std. velocity ammo through it and is quite accurate to 100m with the factory open sights. If you appreciate open sighted pump .22's, this one is a real gem.
