I used to run 1-6 or 1-8 lpvos on all my rifles, kinda gave up on them due to the weight they add.
I now run 2moa holosuns Or vortex red dots on everything, and an eotech xps3 on the Tavor, I have 3x and a 6x flip to side magnifiers that get slapped on when needed. This allows me to keep independent weight down but also push distance on those odd days where I feel like it.
The weight of the Eotech plus magnifier is the same as a LPVO + mount. So my heaviest setup is still the same weight.
I find the holographic reticle the best for my astigmatism, but it takes a while to get used to. You also don’t really need BDC reticles, you can work your holdovers based on distance if you know what your bullet drop should be at a certain range for your zero, lots of free ballistic calculators for that online, it’s also important to understand a lot of LPVOs are SFP reticles, which is only accurate at full magnification. Anywhere under that they’re just an estimate. FFP is accurate throughout the range.
The Eotech reticles can also be used for rough ranging, and they make multi dot reticles for BDC compensation.
Vortex UH1s are very similar to the Eotechs, and it’s a personal preference, but I chose the Eotech as we have physically shot one up and it still ran fine (5.56/22lr/target load on the sides) 308 through the glass blew it though, although the reticle was still visible in the shards, just not useable.
