LVPO scope for Tavor 556

I used to run 1-6 or 1-8 lpvos on all my rifles, kinda gave up on them due to the weight they add.

I now run 2moa holosuns Or vortex red dots on everything, and an eotech xps3 on the Tavor, I have 3x and a 6x flip to side magnifiers that get slapped on when needed. This allows me to keep independent weight down but also push distance on those odd days where I feel like it.
The weight of the Eotech plus magnifier is the same as a LPVO + mount. So my heaviest setup is still the same weight.

I find the holographic reticle the best for my astigmatism, but it takes a while to get used to. You also don’t really need BDC reticles, you can work your holdovers based on distance if you know what your bullet drop should be at a certain range for your zero, lots of free ballistic calculators for that online, it’s also important to understand a lot of LPVOs are SFP reticles, which is only accurate at full magnification. Anywhere under that they’re just an estimate. FFP is accurate throughout the range.

The Eotech reticles can also be used for rough ranging, and they make multi dot reticles for BDC compensation.

Vortex UH1s are very similar to the Eotechs, and it’s a personal preference, but I chose the Eotech as we have physically shot one up and it still ran fine (5.56/22lr/target load on the sides) 308 through the glass blew it though, although the reticle was still visible in the shards, just not useable.

Personally I think a lightweight 1-6 is about perfect

1-8 IMO is not a significant improvement with the glass I’ve used since the FOV shrinks and the eyebox gets tight

I shoot my rifles anywhere between 10-600y and a red dot and magnifier doesn’t work…even if the target is visible, depending on how big it is a red dot can be quite difficult even at 100y.

I personally don’t care about FFP. I run a 200y zero and can hit anything out to 275 or so without any holdover. Between 300-400y I am running a slight holdover on midrange zoom and beyond that I am dialed to max and I have my bullet drops on my range card.

My personal use is self defense and 2 gun or 3 gun so YMMV

Got the generic weaver cantilever mount.
Loving the setup.
Gonna get it zeroed on Saturday.
Will report back.

Problem with the red dots was that my astigmatism was making them look pixelated.
No such problem with the LVPO.

Setup is 10/10 for mirror commando cosplay in tidy whitties.

Across my Tavors I have a 3x prism, 1-6 Strike Eagle and a T2. The one with the strike eagle is used the least. It adds enough weight to be at a disadvantage somewhat. Most of my shooting is easily accomplished with a red dot, the 3x is nice but not a huge advantage IMO.

You already went with the VUDU but if you ever want to shave weight I doubt you'll be unhappy with most any decent red dot out there. I will eventually pull off the 1-6 and install something else. I only bought it because they were on sale for $300 or something like that.

I didn't see your comment about astigmatism until after I posted.

Don't laugh. I've got a Bushnell 3-12x40 AR for $200 on the X95 and couldn't be happier. It keeps zero and 3 MOA. With my (lowly) skill I doubt it could getany better spending thousands of dollars more. And I love the way they look at me at the range.

Nothing to laugh about. Your $200 Bushnell is far, far, superior to optics made 30 years ago.

Definitely not laughing. I have a TAR 21 with a Burris full field II 3-9x on a Burris one piece mount. Doesn’t look “ operator” but it works well.. it isn’t heavy, the second focal plane reticle with ballistic drop can be used at 3X with both eyes open for close up or at 9x with the podium bipod deployed. In this case the SFP is an advantage because he crosshair is very usable at 3X vs many FFP scopes where you need to use illumination and hope it’s bright enough as a pseudo red dot. Inexpensive setup and 25-200 yard effective that’s for sure. Could change it for what all the cool kids are using but I have zero desire to do so. It works very well.

I run the M21 on my X95 and other Tar 21. Right height and designed for the Tavor. I bought a few back in the day when everyone was taking them off and dumping them. Had to add the LED mod but still very cost effective and works well.
