Ok, it's been a looooong time since I've bought a new pistol. My first ever firearm purchase was my trusty Beretta 96a. Such a beautiful handgun. However, I'm long overdue for a new one and I'm eager to get a new one. What I'm after for a new pistol is:
1) Something more compact than my Beretta
2) Polymer frame
3) Striker fired
4) .40 Cal
5) Quality trigger

Which has basically lead me to the PPQ and the 40C. I read about the PPQ some time ago and loved everything I've read about it. Most people seem to agree it's one of the best triggers out of the factory. Also read some good things about the M&P, M&P also has a friendlier purchase price. Recently had a chance to compare them both side by side at a local store the other day but the PPQ was 9mm.

To my surprise, I think I like the feel of the M&P in my hand better but that trigger pull weight....hmmm. The PPQ trigger was better but not sure it was quite as comfortable in my hand. And very surprised at the trigger creep on each. Much longer than I was expecting.

So if you were me, what would you go with?

I am a fan of the PPQ but if the M&P feels better for you, go with that. Yes, the trigger sucks but you can buy an aftermarket very easily to upgrade and still come in cheaper than the PPQ. Also, mags are way cheaper and easier to find for the M&P than for the PPQ, not to mention holsters and other accessories.

Neat, didn't know you could do that. No, I didn't. I was just playing with the ones they had in their display case.

Maybe I'll see if they'll let me try out the different backstraps. If that doesn't help, I'll go with the M&P and upgrade the trigger.

ive got the M&P 9C which is the same frame as the 40C and i really like it.
nice small gun.

ive had no issues with it and im a mutant because i dont mind the trigger at all on it.

kind of a suprising comparison you have going there.
the size difference on those guns is pretty substantial, the PPQ being a full size gun and the 40c of course being a compact.

i dont know if this makes a difference to you but compact guns are not that common in Canada.
but full sized 9mm are plentiful.
so the compact may hold a better price for resale further down the line????

OMG am I embarrassed. M&P40, no C. Sorry guys. No idea why I put that in there, didn't even notice. Lol, hope that makes more sense now. Can we even get the compact version in Canada?

I have seen them brought in through importers, but have pinocchio barrels to make restricted status. If you're looking at the M&P make sure you compare both Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Any reason you are limiting yourself to these 2 models?
Take a look at the FNS 9/40, HK SFP9 and the SIG P320 also. These guns are within the S&W and PPQ price points.
The SIG is the new " It" gun of the year due to its adoption by the US Army ( in a modified form).

He already has a Beretta 96, so he's already in the 40 game.

Exactly this. Wanted to keep everything simple so when I bought my first pistol, I figured .40 was a happy medium between 9mm and .45. I reload as well so already have the dies for .40. There are times I'm tempted to buy a 9mm as I think they are easier to shoot?
