M&P 9mm

I am a glock nut but if someone asks what gun do I recommend for a new shooter the M&P 9mm is always high on my list, especially for people with below average hand size... trick it out with the apex sear and some good sights and your good to go.

This was exactly what I thought. I wonder where one could get one of these trigger groups? I wonder if the trigger itself is different feeling?

To remove the disconnect lever you either install a spacer or an extended spring - one person I know used a spring from a fountain pen.

The removal of the mag disconnect for shooters of IDPA is not an option as it amounts to removing of a "safety" which is against the rules unfortunately.

Thaat said, once the slide is closed on an empty chamber inserting a mag, loaded or unloaded into the gun to allow the striker to fall cannot load the gun nor will it result in an AD. I know of some who have made a wooden dowel to fit the mag tunnel and use it to trip the mag disconnect.

Use whatever method you choose, the SO prefers or what your shooting dicipline allows. The mag disconnect has no effect on the trigger pull of the M&P.

No I realize the sear disconnect wouldn't affect the trigger, but we're talking about removing the existing trigger group and dropping a new one in it without the disconnect. So there's no known place to pic something like that up? I would have thought it would be pretty popular for changing the pistol to one without the mag safety, especially since they already have the parts readily available for pistol models without the safety.

All you have to do is remove the mag disconnect lever. I haven't done one but I know of guys who have. The space the lever takes up on the pinit sits on has to be taken up. John who has posted here did his when he had the M&P and can better tell you how he did it. It isn't necessary to replace the entire trigger group.

To anyone thinking about buying one................don't think, just buy it ! Great guns at a decent price.

I will have 3 m&p's ... do you think i might have a problem? kodiak outpost was just discussing in another thread about getting some in without the mag disconnect. just remember if you plan on competing with this pistol tampering with it may get you bumped to a different division there are some officials tha may not like you out there. :nest:

Unfortunately for IDPA shooters you cannot remove the mag disconnect as it is considered a safety device. All pistols made without the mag disconnect have a warning on the slide the gun can be fired without a mag in it. S&W confirmed with me sometime ago that no pistols were imported into Canada without the mag disconnect and without the warning on the slide. Apparently early on some pistols left the factory without the warning but were shipped within the US.

Aside from the nuisance factor the mag disconnect does not effect trigger pull. For new owners of the M&P, once Apex completes their export paperwork their sear will be available through Borownells. I had a friend send me a Apex Sear and it reduces the trigger pull to 4#'s and the trigger is much more crisper with a shorter reset. The sear is legal for IDPA but would take you out of Production Division in IPSC.

Sweet! Convinced my wife, she's getting the M&P9 for graduation. She headed back to school and would love to shoot her books.
