Inspired by the Glock vs M&P thread I figured I'll post a direct comparison to help people that are deciding between the two.

Here is a Gen 4 Glock 22 and M&P9. They are both DAO polymer framed guns but they are as different as they are similar.

Size. M&P's slide is a little bit wider, but the M&P is a little smaller overall but the beavertail actually makes it unnecessarily longer than a Glock, even though M&P's slide and barrel is a little shorter than Glock's. My first M&P that I had years ago, got a beavertail reduction for that and another reason mentioned below.

Trigger feels is a little lighter on the M&P, but the difference is slight.

Sight radius is identical on both guns. But the sights themselves are better on the M&P (vs basic Glock model). Although Glock's plastic sights are still very usable and provide a good sight picture.

Grip is where the main differences are IMO. (M&P has a small backstrap and Glock doesn't have the backstrap add ons - feel the most comfortable that way for me). Gocks grip is a lot more grippy which I like but I suspect after a long day of shooting M&P would feel more comfortable for that reason. Also, the angle of the grip on a Glock forces your hand to sit very high on the gun which makes M&P feel like it has a higher bore axis where in reality they are about the same. When I hold the M&P the web of my hand isn't even close to touching the beavertail, which is another reason why I'm not a fan of it. M&P has an edge in grip size tho, it feels smaller than Glock.

Accessories. Glock has an advantage with mags and parts being cheaper and easier to come by which is a big factor for me

I would rate both guns above Styer and Ruger SR9/40 (which I owned in the past)

more to come if I think of something.

I have the same guns and like them both equally but my M&P is the JG edition with the far better sights and no mag safety b/s.

I do however prefer the Glock trigger to the M&P and it would be the one I would choose if I had to. ( but, thankfully, I don't)

BTW, neither are DAO. Both are striker fired.

They are both striker fired, but they both effectively function as DAO... Even if they are "half-cocked", the trigger pull still pulls the striker further to the rear prior to release.

I think... But I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn last night, so I could be mistaken.

Striker fired, yes- double action no. It's been years since I handled a Glock, so I'm just refering to the M&P; the striker is held by the sear as the slide comes forward, the trigger bar then tilts the sear, it doesn't move it rearward. Hence the M&P is at full #### before firing. There is a tiny (I mean TINY) ledge at the top rear edge of the factory sear, but I wouldn't think that a ten thou would count as "cocking" the pistol. So I guess it's really striker fired Single Action.

As has been mentioned that Glock is not a DAO pistol. A little browsing in the net will clear up any misunderstandings one might have on that issue.

Thank you for the pictures and everyone may do as they please but I would like to mention that you have WAY to much lube on that Gock of yours.

Glock is way over rated. Absolutly one of the ugliest pistols ever. Can you say mattel ?

What does ugly have to do with how a gun is "rated"? Glock's reputation is based on reliability not how pretty it is... If you want pretty, stick to playing with Barbies... :p

Really? Do explain? The striker is under slight pressure when the trigger is at rest. You do indeed complete the "cocking/charging" of the striker when you pull the trigger, and release it. By definition that is double action. The action must be cycled for the system to reset, thus making it DAO.

ETA: If Glocks weren't available I would likely run an M&P.

Aint no contest yo. Glock strait up betta. MP a wackass wannabe Glock. GLock be mo powrful and accurate. Good the we brought the Glock.

Joke account? Hilarious if so...disheartening if not.

I checked out both the Glock and the M&P today. Overall, I like the feel of the Glock better, so off that initial impression, I would go Glock.

I have not fired either gun yet, so that is all rudimentary at this point.

Just a quick read here should explain it to you.
