Hi everyone,

Looking for some help here. I was out at the range this morning and my M&P 9 had a blowout in the frame. The mag shot out of the magwell and the frame has cracks all over it. Anybody know how you go about replacing your frame..

Thanks in advance.

Holy $&/@n! Do you know why? I would be checking into to warranty unless you were using super charged hand loads.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm physically okay, couple pieces of shrapnel in my face but nothing serious. My suspicions are squib load. The fact that it blew the handle apart tells me the pressure from the round couldn't escape down the barrel. And they were lightly loaded hand loads, which screws the warranty pooch no matter what. Sucks cause it's only 4 months old.

I may go Glock now, Police ordinance has an individual officer sale program and it's under $500 for a g17 if I remember right.

If I'm scrapping it do I have to do any paperwork to legally destroy it? Physically it's taken care of...

You've got nothing to loose send it in for Warranty Service. It probably wont be fast but often times the manufacturer will cut you a good deal on the repair as good will.

If you've got spare mags and gear you might as well stay with the MP as change and go through the hassle. They come up often on EE and most of the dealers have them on special regularly. Otherwise look at one of the new SV's. Early reviews say the triggers are meh but overall rock solid and an epic deal for the same price if not less than a Norc.

I PMed you earlier, im interested in mags and acessorries too!

Call Murray Charlton Enterprises, tell them what happened, ask for their advice - they're the S&W warranty guys, they all shoot, they all reload and they'll give you the straight goods on what your choices are.

I would imagine you have to notify the CFO that you no longer have a functional firearm and is nothing more than spare parts. Please let us know what the CFO says. I'm curious myself as to how they handle such cases.

This is the only really useful response other than GSG 1911's to your question. I have recently had a similar incident with my M&P 9. I simply worked through the process of looking for a solution to getting my gun back, I would have been happy to pay. But no, MC has indicated that S&W will fix my gun under warranty. Contact MC and get this sorted.

The web will give you lots of answers to your question, not many of them are useful. Be logical, do your homework and the way forward will be obvious.

Were you using factory or hand loads when yours suffered it's failure?

Hand loads, and I stated this in the letter that I sent with the gun. I even included the failed casing.

Glad I kept the bad casing myself. I emailed MC Charlton but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'll try calling on Tuesday if I haven't heard by then.

Thanks for the info!

They're probably still at SHOT and they don't work weekends anyhow.

You got any pics of the frame? I'd be interested to see how bad it is.
