Hey fellas.

Well, I just found out that in 3 months time I'll have the chance to take my shooting test for CIT. (Cash In Transit)
Naturally, I asked what caliber and firearm I'll be expected to use for the test, and I was told that they can't divludge that information until test time, but they recommended the Smith & Wesson M&P40 as a firearm to practise with.

So I'm thinking I'll a NEW M&P40. Problem? My go-to site sponsors don't have any of them in stock.
Save- though, SFRC has the S&W M&P40 PRO in stock. How does the PRO differ from the factory stock configuration? I'd assume its a factory sporterized/accurrized version, correct?

If worse came to worse, and I can't get my hands on a genuine M&P40- are there any other firearms that are close to the S&W version, in regards to ergos, weight & size? Something from CZ? And please god, no Norincos. My 780 is a safe queen as it is- I don't need another one. I'm looking for something around the same price point as the S&W M&P40, as I only have about $1000 to work with, which'll have to include the price of shipping, taxes & ammo.

Hi there,

Quite a few of the CIT companies have announced their intent to switch to the M&P40, and many have begun to issue them, if they haven't been issued already. So I think that is the best way to go.

Plenty of the CGN sponsoring dealers carry the M&P40, as well as the "Range and Carry Kit", which is only a few bucks more and gives you an extra magazine, holster, and mag pouch. Highly recommended.

I do not mean to be a spokesperson for a particular shop, but I see Wolverine has them in stock for a good price, and Frontier has the Range and Carry Kit in stock. Both are always good to deal with. As I said there are probably many more with them in stock right now, too.

As for the Pro, there are a couple of differences that I would want to avoid training with. If your going to train for a particular weapon system you might as well make it consistent. The last thing you want to do is get used to a longer gun, then go do your test and constantly be firing high because your used to a heavier and longer frame and slide.

Just my two cents, and good luck with the test!

If you want to practice and cant get your hands on an M&P 40 i would suggest a Glock. The SR40 is close as well except it has the external safety and the mag safety. I have Put several thousand rounds through my M&P40 and I find it to be an exceptional firearm.

I don't think the glock feels, handles or shoots anything like the M&P. You should train with what you are going to have to carry.

IMO don't settle, buy a M&P40 there are tons around. Worse case scenario post a WTB: Dealers welcome on the EE.

:agree:
Glock feels and handles very differently, and the trigger pulls are worlds apart. Don't build in training scars...

The M&P PRO comes in two versions, 4.25" & 5". I have never seen the 4.25" PRO in Canada.

Unless you are going to use the gun in competition there really isn't any advantages the 5" PRO offers over the FS gun. The trigger is marginally better than the regular FS and the gun comes with a FO front sight. Given you want a gun to practice with for work related benefits then I would certainly just go with the regular FS. You can always set the FS gun up similar to your work gun later, I am thinking sights.

North Silva should be able to tell you who has the .40cal in stock.

More 40's on the way

Put a WTB in the EE. I recently picked up a great used M&P40 that way. Also on the WTS side, it seems like one pops up every couple of weeks or so.

I love mine - if I had to describe it in one word it would be 'easy'. Everything about the gun is easy: easy to shoot, easy to hold, easy to clean, etc.

djmay71 have you considered just buying a M&P 9MM. The frame for the9MM is identical to that of the .40cal. Aside from recoil the guns would feel, operate exactly the same way. For practice 9MM is much cheaper to buy for your personal practice. If you reload, a hot 115 gr bullet in 9MM is going to be just as snappy as the .40cal.

I have both and blind folded you couldn't tell the difference in the guns when shooting them.
