These barrels are virtually identical to the USGI barrel, except that they are 18.750" long. All the grooves are as they should be, and the breech is skirted (short), which, from what I understand, many aftermarket M1 carbine barrels are not. I just installed one of these barrels on a long-ago bubba'ed USGI carbine, and everything fit as it should. Definitely one of the nicer aftermarket carbine barrels that I have seen.Hitzy said:I'm thinking about it as well. The barrels on Tradex's site look like the groove the op rod rides in is absent and might need to be machined. I should send an email off......
The earlier Universals were compatible with USGI parts, but the later ones were not. If it has a stamped and welded slide, and two recoil springs, the USGI style barrels will not work.Fremen said:M1 Carbine BBL change
I have universal M1 that I want to make no restricted.
Swapping out the bbl is this a Do at home thing or should I bring it to the smith?

Whether you do it yourself, or you have a smith do it, you will need a receiver wrench, or risk twisting or otherwise damaging the receiver. This is the wrench that I made up for working on my carbines:

No. You are stuck with the barrel that is on it. The only possibility of getting a non-restricted barrel for that Universal would be if someone was parting one out that had the longer barrel.Fremen said:I have the two springs. Can this be made to work wit it though?

Yes - simple drop-in - you remove the gas piston and nut from the old barrel, and install them on the Trade-Ex barrel. A gas nut wrench is needed (or at least highly recommended) to do it properly.Light Infantry said:Leonardj
I'm coming to your house to use those tools!
Do you know if the trade ex barrels need the gas piston installed (or whatever its called) is that a simple drop in? or some more work required?

Wolff has them, and they will sell direct, no problem.Singed said:speaking of universal M1s anyone know where I could get some recoil springs. I bought it a year or so ago it is in really nice shape with a 18.5 barrel, but sometimes it won't chamber a round right, kind of like it doesn't have enough force.
