Currently building out a Garand from a mix of new and surplus parts. I'm planning on using a new Criterion .308 barrel which is built to USGI specs instead of the shorter Italian .308 barrels.
I just noticed the stock I have seems to be a bit short as there's about 7/8" gap from the tip of the stock ferrule cutout and the lower band:
This stock is 29" from the end of the buttstock plate cutout to the end of the stock ferrule cutout, whereas the USGI stocks should be 29 3/4" I believe.
I've heard there are ways to extend the stock (either with a wood extension or extended lower band). Does anybody have experience with extending the stock? Is it even worth it or should I look into finding the correct USGI stock instead?
