M1 Garand Stripped Receivers $49.95

Anyone out there actually assembled a Garand from parts?
Many years ago, I bought a complete but badly abused one.
It was from an auction of Tom Bongalis movie prop guns. The receiver was cracked so I was afraid to fire full power ammo thru it. (It was converted for blank firing)
So I have a complete gun with cracked receiver, and now I have a fresh receiver. I just have to pull the barrel and reinstall it again on the new one. How difficult is this?

Yes. Mostly easy. Winchester receivers can be problematic to time. I was going to buy three, but went to bed. Still have a few to complete. You will need to borrow a wrench, barrel blocks, clamps, straight edges and a barrel vice. Hungry taught me (and many others) just how easy this can be.

Cheers,

Rich

Has to be timed right. There are some videos on youtube. Haven't done it yet but seems straight forward if you follow the proper steps. For 50 bucks, and the cost of a gunsmith I think even then you'd be ahead with a more usable rifle.

Good to know guy. I'll look for some YT videos.

Yes, took most of 2013 off and away from CGN to get the business off the ground...I just started cruising CGN again last week...I am going to try and limit my weekly CGN hours to a reasonable 10-15 hours ;>)

Good luck with that. Only way I can do it is to go where there is no cell phone service.:) So what business did ya start? Garand refurb?

I wish!

I work in the mechanical engineering industry, the new business focused on engineering consulting, engineering technology sales (design software manufacturing software etc..), and engineering services.

Sounds like a great step forward. Thought the middle east (ontario/quebec) was slowly dying like the us midwest. Glad to see positive stuff happening.

After a quick and impromptu "get Kodiak an M1" I have deemed this project as economically unfeasible. Every major part I priced ranged in the two hundred to high three hundred dollar mark! Which included the previously mentioned op rod. Then you have to get it across the border!

Got some parts for the build:
Slide and follower
Bullet Guide
Follower Rod
Follower Arm
Follower Arm Pin
Op Rod Catch w Accelerator
Op Rod Spring

With the Reciever I'm at $176.55 so far. Long way to go but think thats a good start.
