M10x: Beyond the Distributer Thoughts

Hey all, I’m been on and off the fence about getting a 7.62x39 rifle, specifically in the AK(ish) platform but still modular and customizable and it leads me to the M10x. Beyond the North Sylva markup or whatever that deal was, is it at least a half decent rifle with getting?

I don’t personally own one but I chose a type 81 over the m10x when I made my purchase. The m10x got very different reviews depending who was doing the review. I noticed that anyone doing a review that was obviously promoting it said it was awesome and then the independent reviewers were saying it’s garbage. So take that for what it is.
 
The first copies of the WS-MCR in 7.62x39 have finally arrived and are in stock at Wolverine. I suspect they have sent stock to other retailers, as well.

Not an AK OS, but they've addressed many of the issues found in the WK-180 produced previously when applying the 180 OS to a modern rifle. You can't use AK mags (yet, they are interested in an AK-mag accepting lower at a later time, when the world isn't in crisis), but you can use 10 round XCR Pistol magazines. It can take AR15 stocks, drop-in triggers, and pistol grips, so it meets part of your customization requirement.

It would be a new rifle in 7.62x39, but an upper for both the WK lower and the NoDAK Spud lower was previously made by Range Warrior Accessories, before they sadly closed; I don't think too many were made, but I saw no reports on CGN about problems with that upper. Both the RWA upper and new WS upper added steel wear-resistant plates for the bolt to ride against; this should help with the aluminum upper wear issues found on the WK.

I like the idea of a type 81 but like I said, modular. If I could get a side folding AK stock for it, polymer grip, at least a dust cover or side mount for an optic and the already existing quad rail I’d absolutely be sold

I’m not exactly the biggest fan of the WK series. I chose to spend $3300 for an SLR over a WK on looks alone. The main reason on wanting an sorta AK platform is because I already have two AR’s and I’d like to take people out who don’t shoot ever or at all and I like to expose them to more than just an AR platform. But I appreciate your suggestion!

IMHO $1500 is pushing the pricing limits for an unproven budget firearm. Heck, I put together a kick ass 7.62x39 Modern Sporter for about $600 more.

When it comes to the lower priced x39 blasters I'd be looking at a VZ-58 first followed by the Mini 30 or the Type 81.

People can flame on me for suggesting the Mini 30 all they want but they are guaranteed to go bang and put lead downrange every time you pull the trigger.

No worries, the MCR is defintely meant to scratch an AR, not an AK itch.

Cool, agreed, its a lot of money for a new firearm, especially after what a happened with the WK. Hopefully the design improvements make it more dependable. Assuming someone couldn't wait for an ATRS to craft their own sporter, and after the MCR has been out for a year or so, would the premium over a Type 81 be worth it to have compatibility with M-Lok accessories, Pic rail scopes, and some AR parts?

Could you throw a link of a picture of your 7.62x39 mm Modern Sporter on here? I searched and saw some of your posts about it, but there's a lot of posts out there to go through.
 
I've owned an M10x, VZ-58, Type-81 and SKS.

The M10x was by far the LEAST accurate and the MOST heavy.

The VZ-58 wins on accuracy, but the Type-81 wins overall, its just too cool!

Just my 2 cents.

The picture here shows a Trigger Tech trigger which has since been replaced with a basic milspec trigger (was getting light strikes on some ammo types). I also took the TT cost off to get to the estimate of $2100. Picking up some parts either used or on for good sale prices also helped to keep my cost down.

Did ATRS add the 7.62x39 stenciling to the dust cover for you, or did you do that yourself? Looks great, thanks for posting it!

That exactly what other people are saying.... I'm glad they jumped in price and I jumped out. Almost bought it. T81+SKS > M10x
 
So to all saying VZ/CZ: If I went with the 18.6” version, which is preferred, what are some decent fore-end options that make that barrel look less like a long schlong. I’ve seen some with the long zhukov fore end and it looks alright but that’s about it. I have my RPAL so 11.8 is an option but then it’s not something I can take into the bush/gravel pit.

Ammo is just gonna be whatever non corrosive bulk I can find. I have an SKS but it’s a refurb ‘53 in decent condition and I’m keen on modular but I’m not about to throw in everyone’s favourite tapco stock.

Another vote for a CSA VZ 58. It provides some AK vibes while also offering superior accuracy, ergonomics and customization to its competitors.
