I head the CZ Brens are finicky on ammo and mags. I know CSC brings in specific AC-unity mags for them to make them run more reliable. But don't forget that one gun is NR whereas the other with 11" barrel is restricted. Kinda important for us folks who want to shoot on crown land.11" CZ Bren in 7.62x39mm at $2900 ($400 more) v. the Gen 3 Plus with Chromed 16.5" CHFB at $2500

G4C has an 11" barrelled CZ Bren for $2500 - that is the same price as I was quoted for an M+M Gen 3 Plus with 16.5" OEM barrel.

Who knows? One possible explanation is that they (M+M) tried more machining on their late Gen 2 cast receivers in an effort to smooth them out before resorting to the more expensive all-milled Gen 3 version. But that is just a SWAG on my part. When I owned a cast receiver rifle (by definition, a Gen 2), it was quite rough in terms of both feel and appearance. It had a pretty gritty Bolt-Carrier throw and when stripped there were lots of obviously cast (eg. not machined) surfaces. I cannot recall if the actual bearing surfaces of my Gen 2 Receiver's Bolt-Carrier race-way were all machined - I assume that they must have been, but the feel was nowhere near as smooth as my current Gen 3. I dunno, perhaps my faulty memory is simply exaggerating the different "feel" between the two rifles, given that I owned my Gen 2 at least 3(?) years ago. Difficult to say with full confidence based on your more recent comparison of the two generations....I don't know if they upgraded the receiver, lubed it up good, polished some surfaces (or maybe I'm a fool) but the Gen 2s CSC is selling with the Gen 3 guts is very smooth. Unfortunately I cannot compare it to a Galil, Valmet, or AKMS...
Another 80 rounds through my M10X (gen two handguard, gen3 internals) this week with no issues to report. I am still on gas setting two but will test it out on the first setting after another hundred or so rounds. One thing that isn't mentioned very much is how nice the trigger feels - maybe on the light side for a rifle of this style but the feel is great and I ain't complaining. I also took delivery of some bulgarian polymer AK mags thanks to some CGNers pointing me in the right direction and they are definitely the way to go.Alright one more small data point. Being local to Calgary I figured the risk was somewhat mitigated with CSC taking it on. Given the past issues I wasn't willing to pay the full price for a Gen 3 but upon speaking to the folks at CSC they confirmed that I could save $700 by getting the 2nd gen long handguard rifle with the Gen 3 internals. I don't know the owners of CSC or M+M, and I paid for the rifle.
Took it to the range today, but not before putting the gas setting on 2 (or whatever it is called on the 3rd Gen). 70 rounds of Norinco red box flew down range with no stoppages on the M+M metal mags. As others mention, those M+M mags are pinned to tight and only fit 4, biggest bummer of the day. I cannot comment on accuracy at this point, but will be putting an LPVO on it for my next trip to get a better idea for it. Noticeably soft recoil too. I will admit it is a fun rifle and all of a sudden I am looking for more x39.
