M10X Report 2,000+ Rounds

My gen 3 comes next week. I’m going to test it with Chinese, Czech surplus & Barnaul. I’ll probably do a little write up on here.
I run Barnaul exclusively.

Once I confirmed it was reliable, I tried one round of Nornico red box that short stroked on gas setting one. I then went back to what worked.

It may have run flawlessly on Norinco red box and setting two, as M+M suggests, but I didn’t care and just went back to my Barnaul.

I’ve not had one malf, aside the one round of red box.

My mags are pinned too tight and so I can only load four on a closed bolt - not the rifles fault.

I bought up a lot Barnaul while it was still available. I suspect, with many other rifles to shoot, that I have stock for life.

Where are these gen 3s at? True gen 3s?

I would like to know myself.

CSC (Calgary shooting centre is the warranty centre for those rifles and are also selling them. First the (true) gen 3 for $2,349, then a gen 2 with gen 3 internals for $1,679 - their words in a post here.

What about the rifles offered by other Canadian suppliers which are offered as Gen 3? Are those not (true) gen 3 or what? When comparing pictures, it appears that those are not (true) gen 3 but gen 2 with gen 3 internals.

There has to be a clear marketing strategy, otherwise people will get pissed off again.

Myself, bfiles, and Borak5 (?) all have rifles that run reliably.

I’m actually thinking of picking up a Gen 3 as mine is a 2+

I’m not sure this gentleman is a blatantly and obvious shill, as I’ve not seen any evidence myself that he is one.

What do you have to support your claim, besides a review where he reports 25 malfunctions?
Look at both of his reviews I have quoted.

Hype up a rifle with obvious reliability and accuracy problems and claim it is sturdy and reliable while his own words contradict his claims. The 25 failures he has described directly refutes the reliability claim.

Claiming he knows the owner of M+M makes one wonder about business or friendship based biases.

Then praising CSC for being the main dealer with all the goodies in the world for the rifle and repairs…

The behaviour mirrors Bartoks shill post/review for the R18.

Forgive me for noticing repetitive patterns and behaviour but I simply cannot ignore those factors.

I know the owner of M+M. Met him at Shot Show. He is there every year. And quite often also at TACCOM. Maybe go there, talk to him and see what he did to improve the M10X. He admits it not being the best rifle when he started and that he improved it over time.

Yes, I shill for CSC. I think these guys are fantastic, just look at their store and selection of products. Not to mention the great customer service and fast shipping. So yeah, not sorry for that.

You know, if there are good businesses out there that do good products I'll endorse them. End of story.

Wow, first review 600rds. Now a year later 2,000rds. Maybe 1,400 rounds trial and error with different ammo has made some changes to my report. If you would have read my review, I do attribute most malfunctions to either mags too tightly pinned or ammo.

Anyhow, have a great day and stay safe. Support our Canadian businesses if you can, and maybe manufacturers that try hard to push cool products to the market.

Good point, I do not know. I think mine is a Gen 2 with Gen 3 internals for most of it.

What mags were pinned too tight for you?

Seconded - it is quite confusing since obviously $1600~ is a pretty sweet deal for these but the lack of clarification is a bit concerning.

Shooting Centre would you mind clarifying which models have what? There's so many variations at this point and there hasn't been much clarification.

Also OP ; do try to get your hands on some match loads and hand-feed it. The accuracy potential has been on my mind for ages now. Or a single stack mag, either or. It would be really appreciated :)

I think the concerns about Chinese surplus ammo are a bit overblown. I haven't counted, but I've had multiple ammo-induced failures with Chinese ammo and expecting minute of barn door with it is the best. It's really just cheap plinking ammo. Now, if it didn't work with Barnaul, that's a different story.

Hmm… okay.

I see your perspective.

Thanks for clarifying.

I suspect you will find that the M10X Gen 2 (with or without the Gen 3 Bolt and coiled Hammer Spring), is a Cast steel Receiver, whereas the Gen 3 Receiver is Milled. Mike Meyer makes this clear in his video explaining the differences between the Generations and the various Gen 3 models.

The difference between the two becomes very apparent when you run the action. My Gen 3 action is the far smoother than any other rifle in my inventory aside from the actual SIG/SwissArms PE90. The Gen 2 that I had a few years back was gritty by comparison.

Nothing like a company that uses people's hard earned money for their beta-testing. I guess M+M is no different than Sig in that regard. Don't have much use for either.

Alright one more small data point. Being local to Calgary I figured the risk was somewhat mitigated with CSC taking it on. Given the past issues I wasn't willing to pay the full price for a Gen 3 but upon speaking to the folks at CSC they confirmed that I could save $700 by getting the 2nd gen long handguard rifle with the Gen 3 internals. I don't know the owners of CSC or M+M, and I paid for the rifle.

Took it to the range today, but not before putting the gas setting on 2 (or whatever it is called on the 3rd Gen). 70 rounds of Norinco red box flew down range with no stoppages on the M+M metal mags. As others mention, those M+M mags are pinned to tight and only fit 4, biggest bummer of the day. I cannot comment on accuracy at this point, but will be putting an LPVO on it for my next trip to get a better idea for it. Noticeably soft recoil too. I will admit it is a fun rifle and all of a sudden I am looking for more x39.

Damn, that's ####ty about the mags. I'm sorry to hear about that. Keep us posted on the accuracy report. Did you try PMAGs yet?

How does this compare against a Type 81 ?

My key criterion is alwasy reliability.

I prize something that works well 100% of the time over something that works superbly 95% of the time.
