M10x Unboxing

It must suck for you knowing I have as much experience with it finger f*cking the one at CSC as you have with the two you bought, eh? LOL

For those that haven’t yet or won’t get a chance to look at these in person, here’s what I think:
I spent all of ten minutes and figured out without shooting it it isn’t worth the $2000 air fare. Imho.
Comparable to Swiss Arms? I don’t think so, but I only own two Swiss Arms. When compared to a beat-to-sh!t AK, sure, I suppose there is an argument for that, but a straight up side-by-side? No. I’d compare this to low to mid grade AR for quality overall - like PSA or the like. Nothing wrong with that, but not $2k worth of admission.
Giesselle like trigger? Nope. It’s a sh!tty single stage with a mushy let off. Not a particularly great trigger, even for an AK, but it is serviceable, even on the light side for something like this. It is begging for an upgraded two stage.
Fit / finish? It’s ok, but nothing to write home about. The glossy, smooth finish of the safety is a bit weird. Of one item I want a tactile separation on a firearm, it’s the safety.
The semi-smooth finish of the receiver and picitinny top rail? I would have preferred a dull type III anodizing. The rail on the CSC floor model is already showing signs of ever-so-slight wear at the edges.
I didn’t and won’t pick it apart, as it’s appeal quickly evaporated.
The general feel imho is this thing should retail for $1200-1400 before tax. However, I’m of the belief that both the
VZ-58 and T-81s are over priced too, so take that with a grain of salt.
It’s like it has too much going for it to be a 7.62x39mm blaster, not to mention being too much cash, and too little going for it to be something you’d want to run in SR, carbine, or three gun. A fun generalist rifle for range or hunting? Get yourself a CZ-527 in x39...
I would reserve final judgement until I have rounds down range with one, but I personally think the builder has missed the mark with this. I think if they drop in price to under $1500, I’d maybe give one a whirl.
I did that with the B+T APC and am happy with the reduced price a gently used copy and a few months of cool down did to the asking price. As always YMMV.

You are so wise and cool, that's an amazing story!!!!!! Good for you!!!!

But that's exactly it, I have 2 I can compare side by side for a review :rolleye:

Is there supposed to be a spring or something behind the bolt? There is nothing keeping bolt closed/pressed forward. If I pull back on the charging handle the bcg just sits to where I pulled it to it doesn't snap close.

Make sure you inserted and locked the handle correctly. There is a page with instructions in the box.

Charging handle connects/locks BCG to OProd.

Sorted out my issue wasn't getting the charging handle thru the piston. This didn't seem correct but had to take off the gas valve cap and push the piston with a screwdriver to push the piston into the bolt far enough to insert the charging handle. Otherwise there is a bit of the piston in the hole blocking the charging handle from going thru...

If you push hard enough, the Cocking Handle moves that protruding portion of the Piston out of the way, clearing the hole for the CH to slide home and then be locked in position with a press and turn of the End-Cap. There is no need to remove the Gas Plug and press on the Piston-head to get the hole to line up. Just push hard on the CH and drive it home....

I got mine today.....I didn’t think I’d like the finger grooves on the grip but it fits well withy small hands. The QD sling fits the hole on the rear of the receiver snug and the single point sling gets it hanging where I like.
That’s about all I got so far.....I’m happy.
I’ve got a primary arms optic for it....if it stops raining I’ll get out and see how it shoots.

Is this the current price of the 858/vz58? or the original $699?

I need to drop by the center and have a look myself. The reliability problems are definitely concerning, I hope bartok runs some surplus, I'm willing to donate some czech and chinese surplus to his testing if the timings ever meet up, if it works well it might replace the 858 in my safe, if not ah well.

I do agree on the 527. It's a lot of fun. But not really fair to compare a semi to a bolt gun.

The VZ at the original pricing was bang on, and arguably a bargain. At ~ $800, depending on kit included is right around what they are worth IMHO. At $1400 they are/were overpriced. The T-81 should have be around that $600 range too, not the $1000 it cost. But with exclusive releases of certain firearms and the demand, those price increases are to be expected.

You are comparing surplus "parts" rifles vs new production rifles with Walther Lothar barrels. Also CAD was at par with USD. So 1400 is actually 1000 at those begone dollars.

Good points Blackvoid. The sum of the rifle though didn't change much, and that is what I'm looking at. Is a Lothar Walther barrel better than the surplus chrome lined VZ barrel? I suppose one can make an arguement that there is significant cost and quality differences, but when you send communist surplus ammo down range, the differences evaporate faster than your ammo stash.

May be my CSA Vz just loves barnaul ammo, i got consistent 2 inch groups with 3x optic at 100m.

If I manage to get off-work this month I will take both M10x and Vz and test Barnaul and Norinco.

Despite looking like an AK, this rifle has a crisp 3.7-pound trigger pull with zero take up. It’s also 1 MOA-capable with match ammunition. :stirthepot2:

That's pretty much why I'm curious how this does with surplus stuff including lacquered ammo. It doesn't need a fancy barrel, the cz has what I want for accuracy, the big draw of this carbine initially was the optic ready gun off the get go with readily available ak mags.

I did just handle it at csc, the gun feels lighter than the weight suggests, I won't put it on par with a swiss in terms of quality, but it's a pretty good quality piece. I want to know if this is a standard ak bolt, it's a very good quality bolt. I'm split between you guys on the trigger, I don't think it's amazing but I don't think it sucks either. The pictures don't really show how big a gap there is on the charging handle slot well. then again a lot of aks have huge gaps there. I understand the reason for that mlok rail cover there. The rail and handguard I am a fan of. The ergonomics of the gun I would argue beat the stock vz, although I wish the safety levers were just a little longer. I'm not sure if it's worth the 2 grand yet. I want to see a few more range reports especially on surplus ammo. That to me is key. I want it to run through crates of surplus like a fat kid through candy.

Got my rifle today. Overall I'm happy except for the bolt slamming closed when I remove the magazine. Almost a deal breaker for me. I would rather the bolt close after the last round is fired.

Use different ak mags that don’t have hold open follower in them .... I think it yugo and Croatia mags all others available to us the bolt won’t stay open on the last round.
