The .308 is just fine for moose.
The M14 is a little heavy and clunky, but will work just fine.
I like my Moose killed extra dead so I prefer the 300 WM.

I think the best question is ""WHY '' would you use a 308 or similar gun when there is far better out there .. yuor grandfather used a 351 .. Mine used a 56-50 spencer .. which is a rim rire .. A glorified over size 22 .. I am sure there is better choices in this day .. I seen a moose shot with a 44-40 .. It was a calf and shot in the neck .. It fell right where the guy shot it .. but the bullet was just two inches in the neck .. Not enough gun in my opinion.. If he had shot that moose in the body it most likely would have died some where .. but not any where near where it was shot
Didn't we use to successfully hunt with 30-30's? But that was before the WSMs and RUMs etc.
