M14 brand new and defective..Pics added

I realize I'm reserecting an ancient thread here, but my bolt lug looks exactly as the one in OP's pictures. No "bolt wobble" but the bolt catch will not eeeeer catch the bolt. It slams forward as soon as I take my finger off the bolt catch tab. Shoots fine, 300 rnds through it, only started doing it recently. Now what?

I'd hazard a guess that you need a new bolt stop.

New commercial SAI is available from brownelles. Used or NOS USGI is available from treeline m14 . com

Replacement is a pretty straightforward process, but sometimes the rifle fights ya! Take your time and don't get too rammy! Ya defiantly don't want to break off one of the bolt stop tabs!

Cheers!

FYI my brother just purchased a brand new Stainless Ruger Mini 14 in .223. He tried shooting it and had to bash the op rod handle to get it to chamber every time. I looked at it and the bolt had to slide to the op rod side about .020 thou to let a cartridge chamber. The bolt nose was still jammed into the left side of the barrel counter bore. In other words the receiver threads and the barrel and counter bore in it for the bolt nose were misaligned with the receiver bolt ways. All this on a brand new $1300.00 American made rifle.

Thanks NSRG,
I thought about getting a new bolt stop. First I will try grinding down the opposite side of the original so it will rotate higher when I push it in. Seen this bit of advice on here somewhere. But I am worried that the rounded off bolt lug is the problem. I guess I can live without a bolt stop if I have to, it stays open with an empty mag so I can pull a bore snake through.
