M14 EBR cycling issue

I was at the range yesterday and ran into a couple issues. First, the known issue of the oprod spring coming undone due to the gap between the aftermarket stock and the retainer pin. Will fix this using the popsicle fix or a similar alternative.

However, once I made a temporary fix - jammed an earplug in to fix the gap - I was having issues with the cycling. I was shooting cheap Norc ammo, and some rounds would cycle properly, others would have to be cycled manually. It always ejected the cases normally though. I just took the rifle apart and couldn't find anything that would suggest it could be the cause.

Another thing I noticed was that on occasion (I saw it only once, but didn't check each time) when it didn't cycle the next round, and I took out the mag, the next round had some discolouration on it, that I assume were caused by hot gasses emitted from the previous cartridge. I took a picture and will upload it in a second.

Here's the picture of a 'clean' round and the one in question.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Please do not use Popsicle stick fix on a 1000 + stock. Brownells has usgi pins for a 1.65. Or send me a stamped return envelope and ill send you one of my spares.

I only realized after looking up the fix that you actually mess with the stock rather than just gluing something onto the receiver. I'll probably take you up on that. I'll PM you.
