hello,

I was looking for maybe a savage 10fp/10fcp or remington 700p
but wanted your opinion on M14's.. are they good for precision

thanks

I had asked the same question a while back and everybody seemed say that its a not bad choice for 100 to 500 yard range. But it won't compare to a heavy barreled bolt action that will reach out a 1000 yards. I however am going to use a M14 but I don't shoot past 400 so its a good choice for me.

Cheers

Brian

Fisrt of all, I guess you need to define "Precision" or at least bring up what you consider to be precision... None of the choices you mentioned are one-hole guns.

You probably should also distinguish between and M-14 and a Norinco M305. The Norincos are good platforms for building a very accurate semi-auto, but by the time you invest in a match barrel, a good stock, all the upgraded parts, and all the work that goes into them, you may as well buy an M1A, and even then you'll want to spend more :)

Having said that, the Norincos are one helluva lotta fun out of the box even if you won't be bringing home many trophies with them. Truth be known, If you want to invest in a firearm with good out-of-box accuracy, then a savage or remington law enforcement/mil spec offering is probably best. Keep the M305 for having fun.

maybe, but you also have to define what level of m1a you're buying- the "bottom" end ones and the norc's are at least equal- when you start talking "national match" , super, and whatever else they're calling their top end guns these days( white feather comes to mind) , you also go up a considerable dollar-you can probably accomplish the same thing for less by using a stripped norc and having one of "masters" build one for you - and you'll have a better gun
THEN YOU HAVE TO HOLD YOUR END UP BY TAILORING YOUR OWN AMMO AND BECOMING THE BEST SHOT YOU CAN BE
it's going to take considerable time and effort on your part- lots of people have the idea they can go out and buy a tricked out gun and win bisley or the wimbleton cup- it doesn't work like that
and a lot depends on the gun- my first issue norc ( which is 100% stock)
shoots right with my springfield- but not as good as my trw
