M14 gas piston totally siezed up.

How did you get water in there is the question I want to know. Were you shooting in the rain?

I take it the piston isn't chromed, was this a corrosive ammo?

I thought it was corrosive ammo, hence I ran some water down the bore to flush out the salts. In my great wisdom I forgot about the gas system. The ammo (SA surplus from '81) turned out not to be corrosive, the water did.....

Ah, ouch! Not fun. Well, that certainly makes sense. I am restoring a rusty 1887 Lee Enfield Revolver...rusty as hell. Basically need lots of oil and scrubbing with 0000 steel wool.

did you oil the gas piston or gas piston housing? if so, you shouldn't. it is ok to clean it with oil but make sure you take most of it off. what happens is it heats up and gets real gummy.

Cheap guns, cheap ammo, you get what you pay for. If Chinese M305's are so good, why does everybody want to put genuine US M14 parts into it. Anyone that has owned a real M14 would not buy an inferior product like the M305. Just because it is not restricted does not make it a desirable firearm. Flame on.

Ya Right, lets all buy the Restricted ones just to make our Lives Easy

For all the guys that Shoot theses Rifles ya really dont hear that Many Probs.
Pouring water into any gas system and leaveing it is gona eventully cause trobles.

Don't know about you but the ONLY Norinco parts I would even think about "swapping out" for USGI are the stock, the rear sight, op rod spring guide and possibly the bolt...

...To be honest the only parts I've EVER actually swapped out were the stock and the op rod spring guide.

The sights, all of the ones I own, work perfectly well...

The headspace on all my rifles are within spec and they eat anything I feed them, so I've never had to change the bolts...

The op rod spring guides I bought were all from Marstar, so they aren't USGI.

As for replacement parts, well I bought up as many Norinco "cast aways" as I could...

...I took advantage of the fact that so many new owners were jumping on the "swap for USGI" bandwagon and sold their Norinco parts to make up some of the cost of the USGI stuff.

I should never have to search for parts for any of my M14s ever again.

Oh, I did change the flash hider on two for phantoms and the front sights were replaced with GLFS on all of them.

I also made most of the same changes on my M1A as well.(Except the stock).

All of my rifles are accurate(I'm sure my skill is the limiting factor) and reliable, so no need to flame, I KNOW what I KNOW, and you can think what you want.;)

where you been?- the usgi are PROHIBITED, NOT RESTRICTED-EVERYTHING ELSE IS NON -RESTRICTED- that means your m1as, rincos, lrb or whatever

You want it out.. A good pre-soaking with an automotive breakcleaner will eat up all the carbon fouling and drive the muzzle down hard on a piece of wood or push it out from the back end. It comes out straight.

don't put anything in your gas system. clean it and make sure it is oil ect. free. it will get gummy and soild and freeze the piston if you don't. it doesn't matter if it is a norc or a gi issued m14.
