What do you think of the idea of a M14 in 30-06 and 8mm ... our brothers stateside have come up with just these rifles ... Ooh tha lord ... :D

Kinda seems like a backward step to me...I can see people's enthusiasm for long-action cartridges in a hunting rifle, but not a modern battle rifle. Not that I'm against the idea, but I wouldn't want one myself.

Now an SAFN remake in those calibers...that would be interesting. Or an SAFN in .308...that would be very interesting. Or a Garand designed around the .308. All of those would interest me more...

I'd like to see an M-14 in 5.56. A scaled-down M-14 that uses AR mags. That would be very, very nice.

Mini-14, different mags though. M14 is a dated platform whose accuracy has plateaued. I wouldn't mind an uprated M14 action for hotter loads, and there are already 7mm-08 and .243 and I think .250 savage variants in existance, so there is already some variety. Lengthening the action, it's been done, it was called the Garand.

Built off a WHOLE NEW receiver ... I would assume that 30-06 ball ammo and 8mm military ammo is in abundance and therefore a reason to make them in these calibre's so far ... interesting receiver has a built in rail system.

M-14 in .243 Win.....:xes:ar15::bigHug:

243 would be interesting because it would make the m14 more like an AR15. There'd be great accuracy with practically no felt recoil.

I still think 243 is a ##### cartridge in a stand alone hunting rifle but it sure would be interesting in an m14

Didn't someone build a Garand in .458?

Yes, .458 win mag and .338 win mag. McCann Industries. I looked into it. I think it was $1599.00 USD, plus you supply the garand, plus all the paperwork. Nice guns though.

As for the current discussion; if someone made an M14 that looked like the ones in the pics, chambered in 9.3x62, I'd have to start selling stuff in order to buy one. Preferrably with ten round pistol magazines.

I don't really see the point. A larger, heavier rifle with an insignificant performance advantage. The 8mm version would be even less desirable, given a lesser availability of components compared with .30-06. Why reinvent the M1 Garand?
