Just wondering if anyone knows of a place that can re-thread a shortened m14 barrel , as well as hone out a new Springfield muzzle break so as to make the 2 compatable? Any suggestions would be helpful!

Cheers!

Dlask X2 they also have a block to allow you to use your OEM front sights ...

Ive also had success with Jeff from VGS in Petawawa.

Anyone have any thoughts on which brake to go with after a shorty job? Was looking at the Springfield Armoury M1A Muzzle Brake/Stabilizer from Brownells(part#817-000-002) mainly because it's relatively inexpensive and lets you reuse your stock sites. Or possibly the Troy Flash Suppressor Muzzle Brake (part#100-004-123) and then a gas lock sight. Would either of these require boring out/changing the thread count/pitch? t doesn't mention if they are threaded to

Any and all input appreciated

I have been wanting to do this for over a year now, I bought the Springfield brake from Brownells and I was planned to bring it in to Jeff at VGS in Petawawa but I cant stop buying more firearms ...lol
The Springfield brake has a nicer finish than in the pic supplied by brownells

Ellwood Epps said they would do the work for me as well

Misanthropist did it awhile ago and I stole his pics off here :)

Rugbydave the springfield one has lugs inside the same as the original flashider , I mounted mine and have been using it until I get the barrel cut and the brake honed and threaded ....1/2 x 28 TPI is the pitch I beleive. This is a pic of mine.

Hey Dave,

what happened to the muzzle brake you had at the clinic?

I tried putting the brake someone gave me in Port Alberni on my gun and it didn't work :(

That Springfield brake is looking pretty tight, I may have to go with that one.

Dude, sucks that flash hider I gave you was a dud... Glad I just gave it to ya though. And yeah, the springfield brake is nice and a pretty good bargain too, compared to the SEI one, which I'll grant is bad-ass...

Do you remember how it went on kind of crooked? Unfortunately bullets are hitting the bottom of it. I'm going to have to put the old crappy one back on. Maybe I just put the new on one crooked, who knows, we'll see once I get some castlenut pliers.

Speaking of which I still owe you for the thing. Do you want some Federal blue box ammo?

Alex, I really like that Springfield brake so far. There is quite a noticeable reduction in felt recoil and the rifle stays on target better for quick follow up shots. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well!

I snagged some castlenut pliers on the EE so I'm going to go with the Springfield brake soon. These slip right on the spot welded barrels right?

Why did the Chinese even do that? Isn't the castlenut and dip screw good enough?

I got castle nut pliers with mine when I ordered it from Brownells , once I got the old flash hider off my 09 polytech the Sprinfield slipped on no problem. It does make a noticeable difference in muzzle lift .
