M14 railed handguards ... WTF?

Of course this rail is designed to use a straight line stock ....
take another look at my chop mod AKM ... it is fitted with a YHM tubular stock.

While I very much like the YHM tube stock, and the production stock we are working on is likely to take any AR 15 aftermarket stock, on my personal M14s I prefer side folders ... the ACE side folders in particular.

And NO,
neither Sean nor Thomas is involved in these projects.

M14 noob with Q's...

I've recently been bit by the bug for trying to mod me an M14 and have a couple quick questions about the barreled action in your pic Lazerus2000...

What make is the action (et al) in your photo... and what length is the barrel...? Do you have to re-register the rifle as restricted once you've cut the barrel down like you have...?

TVMIA...!

Dave.

Kenjuudo: Please read the FAQs/Stickys posted in the battle rifle section, they give detailed instructions for shortening barrels on an M14, and many other M14 issues.

These PICS are of a Norinco M14/M305 with a 19" barrel,
threaded 1/2 X28 tpi , and fitted with a YHM combination flash hider/muzzle brake.

All of my current M14/M305 registration papers have been coming back with barrel length as " over 470 mm" , so when shortening an M14 RIFLE barrel down to anything OVER 470 mm, by my interpretation, the CFC does not even require notification of barrel length change.

Scianna54: What the hell are you going on about?
The rail is ALUMINUM ... and believe me, milling a MONOLTHIC M14 rail out of one piece of solid munimula blocks on a CNC machine, is definitely NOT CHEAP!!!!!!!

OK,
what should a made in Canada rail like this sell for?

Given that the UTG M14 rail is a solid and fairly decent unit for a forward mounted "scout" scope setup [ even though the UTG design doesn't go back far enough to allow a rear mounted scope] , and given that the UTG sells for $ 120 Canuck bucks,
we have the low end limit of $ 120 for a decent M14 rail.

The other big name options [ KAC/TROY/VLTOR, etc ]are basically UNobtainium in Canada, and if found used, are VERRRRY expensive, as in over $ 400.
Not counting the Airsofty replicas, of course.

So we have the HIGH end limit of $ 400 PLUS.

So what do you think is the right price?

Personally I think you would have to undercut the Troy etc fairly substantially to generate a lot of interest, unless you are just counting on the competition never being available here (which may well be the case).

If it was $50 less than the Troy I wouldn't even consider it.

If it was $100 less than the Troy I might consider it.

If it was $150 less than the Troy I would look at it pretty hard.

But if you're the only game in town you can charge what you like.

One thing to consider IMO is that half the reason these guns are popular is that they are cheap, and half the reason the TROY rails etc aren't easy to find is that people like Questar are more interested in AR parts...because the people in to ARs aren't people starting out with cheap guns and looking to make them cooler, cheap.

I would GUESS that they figure there is a bit of a limited market for EXPENSIVE goodies for the M14.

That's a guess.

Breaking the 200 mark would make me think hard about it, under 200 it would be a must have for me, breaking 275 I may have to pass though.

I want one but the price is of course the main sticking point. Now I realize that the R&D process is long and takes alot of time and money more than most people can understand or appreciate, so don't take my price opinion as any sort of insult its just one persons view point.

First of all as the distributor for TROY Industries we have lots of inventory of rails/sights/chassis/accessories, and since everyone seems interested in the TROY Battlerail for the M1A/M14/M305 - they will be on special for $375.00 plus tax and shipping for the next week or until we run out of stock, we have 25 available for delivery right now. If you require rails we do stock them and supply them to companies like The ShootingEdge/FabSports/Target Sports Canada/One Shot Tactical, we try to keep things in stock but cannot always have everything that customers want, we value your input and try to stock what you as the customer want, as always we do supply police and military with product and they do get priority for product.

I would pay $250 every day of the week for one if it allows me to run a long OR standard relief scope, as that is not to far off the cost of a good quality scope mount.
A little bit up or down would make a little diffrence....

Ah, well there you go...not unobtanium after all.

So really unless this was in the $200-250 range I don't see the point. The Troy attaches to the rear sight ears which is better IMO, plus you are getting a pretty known quantity at this point with Troy. There is no question about what will happen in the event of warranty issues etc...

I am sure some people would pay more like $300-350 for this but I am not one of them. Unless the pricing is very competitive I would go with the Troy battlerail.

$250 RETAIL is what i would say you should aim for, but if you want deaters to sell it for you you have to make sure ther is a little mark up for them.
