Trying to decide which one is the best to go for another build. Looking to keep rear sight. Build is for hunting, therefore trying to put less weight as much as possible. Hope to hear feedback from you.

What optics are you considering?

That another question as I don't want to make front heavy one. I thought something 1-4 zoom. Nothing fancy. Possibility to drop on extended cantilever mount that will go back
Something like that

I have been running the ARMS #18 for years without issues. That being said, if I was to do it again, I would go scout.

The Bushnell 10x Tac scopes are great on an M14 too.

An M-14 style rifle is way more scope friendly than its daddy. Still wasn't designed for one. However, the original mount screwed into the left side and worked well. Has to be high enough for ejection, but not so high that a cheek rest needs to be excessively high.
The "scout rifle" concept was one of Jeff Cooper's more stupid ideas and involved a bolt action, not a semi-auto. Nobody would ever consider a scoped rifle with the scope on the barrel for a fighting rifle. Isn't great for a hunting rifle either. Screws up the balance.

Ultimak for scout (I've had mine skeletonized a bit to shave weight)
And I run nothing but the arms 18 for "scoping" the rifle. Medium rings with a 40mm just clears handguard.
I run throw lever rings and 3-9x40 so I can if need be, throw the levers and remove the optic quickly for use of irons.
I did have to slightly shave the top of the rear sight aperture so it would not interfere with eyeball end of the scope. Depending what optic you choose, this may not be necessary. I'm a firm believer that the arms 18 is still one of the front runners for scoping these rifles.

M14.ca is coming out with a new ''long sight plain handguard'' that might be worth a look. You loose your rear sight but it looks like you could add a pair of BUIS.

I've seen it as well as NordArm one. However, I will use this rifle for hunting. For side mount, I've read about issues as it is sitting to low causing some stovepipes and other ejection problems. As for scout rail, what concerns me is that this will make rifle really front heavy.

The springfield scout mount might be your answer, its small, light weight and rock solid. I mounted a small leupold eer 4x and the balance was ok.
I had an arms 18 on one of my 305's and I replaced the bolt guts with usgi and finally the bolt with a usgi one but I could never completely cure the odd case jamming between the mount and the oprod.I had success with the springfield gen3 mount although its a big chunk of aluminum with big oversized knobs for mounting bolts.

If you decide that a scout configuration is what you want, the SHG from M14.ca is as good as it gets on a standard weight barrel. The SHG is lighter than the competition, it allows you to co-witness your iron sights through RDS that mount low and it runs cooler that the competition.
