Hey everyone,

I want to buy an m14 from Springfield Arms, Anyone know a supplier in Canada, Preferably Ontario?

Do they still make them new? also, if you could tell me the difference between the Ruger m14 and the Sprig m14?

Thanks, :)

The Springfield Armoury US Rifle M14 was a select fire military weapon. You can't get one of those.

Springfield Armoury in the US makes the M1A, the modern semi auto version of the M14. Quite pricey, but has lots of cachet.

Some feel that at $500 or so the Norinco M14S is a much better value, with perhaps a better receiver. Not available in the US but they come up regularly on the EE and some vendors still have them new in box.

Reworked with some USGI and/or aftermarket parts, they make a pretty good rifle.

What cantom said ^. I own a Norc M14 myself and for the price it's an excellent deal.

Also, Ruger does not make an M14, they make a MINI-14, which is basically a scaled-down version of the M14 that fires .223 instead of .308.

Marstar has them listed but has not had them available for what seems like years.

I am thinking an M1a would be my next purchase as well. I dig the look of the M1a socomII in urban camo. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is restricted because of its barrel length. So I am wondering if there is a place to purchase the urban camo stock+cluster rail and fit it to a norinco m-14.

The Springfield M1A is going to be pricier than a Norinco M305 or M14S by a factor of 5 or 6, plus tax. The guys on the US service rifle boards talk about rather indifferent quality control on some of the US guns. If there is a border between you and the warranty centre, you are going to be visiting your dealer too many times. On the other hand, if you are prepared to be your our "rat bike" gunsmith with a Norinco, there is a huge community of do-it-yourselfers here on CGN.

I thought that the Mini-14 was based on the M1 Carbine & the M14 was based on the M1 Grand?

The Mini 14 is based on the m14. The M14 is a follow on from the M1 Garand, some parts even fit!
The M1 Carbine has a similar action.

Come to think of it, the Mini 14 action is quite similar to the M1 Carbine action too...there is a family resemblence between all of them.

actually marstar sold hundreds of them a few months ago...

"...called the xgi years ago..." It was a Mini-14 chambered in .308 Win. Announced at the S.H.O.T. show in Jan. of 1985, then, in June of '85, Ruger announced that it wasn't going to be made. Ruger supposedly couldn't get it to work reliably. Le Barons listed it in their catalogue for two years afterwards.
Epp's is listing a 'Standard' 22", M1A with a fibreglas stock at $2265.08. The SOCOM II is restricted due to the barrel length.
"...some parts even fit..." The sights and not much else.
"...Mini 14 action is quite similar to the M1 Carbine action..." Not even close. Innards and gas system are totally different.

Went over to a friends house this weekend to score some weaver scope rings and loosen up the magazine on my 870 I accidently screwed on too tight.
After 2 hours of gun/life talk, ended up leaving with this...

There was also a good condition Alpine M1A carbine I passed on, reluctantly.

I've never had an M1 Carbine apart. The Mini 14 has that gas spigot that hangs below the barrel, that goes into the bolt carrier to blow it back. Pretty majorly different than the M14. The main similarity between the M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, M14 and Mini 14 is that rotating bolt, sort of a family resemblence.
