M14 What can be done r/t calibre.

"...would it be legal to hunt yotes with a 14 in Southern Ont..." It's not all of Southern Ontario and no. Accelerator's aren't acurate enough and won't cycle the action anyway.
"...barrel made..." This being the key. You'd have to have a cu$tom barrel made.

I have a springfield made .243 barrel that is a hoot to shoot...I'd buy a bunch more if they were commercially available.

I managed to buy a couple of bags of the 224/30 cal sabots from TSE a couple years back I haven't tried them but was looking at loading them upwith some 77/80/90 gr SMK'sto see if they work.As far as accuraccy goes from the factory Remington Accelerator ammunition I used when it first came out I wasn't impressed .However it is something to look at given the vast selection of bullets and weights.

I'm pondering making up some custom barrels in the new year. Was planning on .308 but this thread and another similar, might provoke me to try another caliber.
I wonder if changing port location, relocating gas system, altering gas plug internal volume, would be avenues to explore for some of the lighter caliber choices.
Could be an interesting project(s)

I would love to see one in 6.5-47Lapua

check out shotgun news magazine for sabots, and they only recomend 55gr fmj and all the reloading info i've found is for 55fmj only, sure are fast and they zip right thru 3/4 steel but accuracy is bad 100yrds 150 is pushing it 300yrds is about 20" grouping, also they say to use in a bolt action. the commercial stuff and the "slap" rounds had a special type crimp to hold them in. they millitary stopped using them cause they were #### and jammed the auto's they were meant for.

X2 but I am happy if someone can offer threaded barrel for m14s in 260 Rem ready to put in along with a chamber reamer as a kit:D

Anyway, can any confirm if there is any feeding issue with any of these conversion (243 / 7-08 or 260 etc)?

I was more concern on the magazine and feeding ramp.

A friend of mine in Kelowna had a SA M1A super match that originally came in .243. He didnt like the chambering and had it re-done in .308. 260 would be neat but....well....I think the .308 is all you need.

How much is that going to run you? Any internal mods needed; or is it just a straight barrel swap? (I'd probably run the 123-139 grain pills.) Also, who are you getting it done by? Any prior experience with them?

I've been following this thread with interest and it prompted me to start researching this a little more. I have no experience with .243 or .260 rem. My first question is... What are the benefits? Is the ammo cheaper and more abundant/readily availlable in Canada than.308?
If the answer is yes... I'd probably try the conversion just for chits'n'gigglez. I'll do some brain pickin with m14 colleagues in the states and see what info is around detailing such conversions

The attraction for a 6.5mm cartridge such as the 6.5-47L is the wide range of excellent, High BC bullets. COL of 2.8 is ideal for this cartridge, and it would fit in existing mags, and I would bet could be tweaked to feed well. You would have a fast moving, high BC bullet with much less recoil, add a Smith muzzle brake and you would have an outstanding 600 yard semi-auto rifle.

I was looking at this a couple of years ago, I think that either the guys at Kreiger or Douglas pointed me to a guy in the US who was getting 6.5mm bls from them and making up M14 bbls. I eventually lost interest and did not remember this until I read this thread

just a question

Since the .308 is cheap and plentiful, why would you want to convert your M1A (not M14)

Seems to me a bolt action rifle in any of the other calibres would be a better idea and considering the cost of conversion, a lot cheaper.
