Yeah that story's been around for a while. Cause: hot loaded ammo.
I am not defending cast receivers (i own one) forged is waaaaay better.

UPDATE: Sorry guys the hot ammo was from a different kaboom. THIS one was the barrel. Here's the report from April 5 2001

WOW, I've never seen anything like that before, I've seen vids of a squib going off, then another round being fired (mag blew out, barrel got a nice bulge in it), but no failure like this.

I wonder if an x-ray of the steel prior to the shooting session may have seen this as fatigued metal - and yes, I am in no way implying we should x-ray our guns every third or fourth range session.
